<font face=3D"Arial, Helvetica">Next week, our new officers will be
installed! President Gumm will soon have the opportunity to
retire-----then go on to bigger and better things!
Today, the club voted unanimously, to elect Mark Denkler as
President-elect, and Bill Adams as Vice President. This came about,
due to the moving of Jerry Sansone, to work in Pompano Beach, who was
originally President-elect. I'm sure both of these men will do a
tremendous job for our club.

Ernie Simon led a most moving invocation, reciting what Rotary is all
about. Gerry Meeks led the singing, with most of us mumbling the
words to our songs! We sang Happy Anniversary to Anne (Reeve)
Bright, who donated $27.00; and Bruce (Joan) Williams, who donated
$20.00. We thank you and wish you many, many more.

Our club holds its' monthly board meetings the second Tuesday morning of
each month, 7:30 a.m. at Ellie's Diner, in the Marilyn Room. I have
been asked to relate to the club that it is an open meeting, and all
members are cordially invited to attend. This is a great way to
observe (close up) what is going on in our club. This is also a way
to do a make up.

We have applications for two new members. This is the first
publication of: Lynn Huckle (widow of Dr. George Huckle, long time
member), and Arthur Lee; he has been a Rotarian up north, but is joining
us here.

Two members, Shirley Clark and Anne Bright, have asked for temporary
leave. Shirley is in job-training, and Anne is away for the
summer. The board voted to grant this. By the way, Anne
donated $20.00 to the club, for leaving for the summer.

REMINDER: The luncheon for Dave Harden, who is being awarded the highest
honor in Boy Scouting, will be held on June 28, at Delray Beach Golf
Club. Our club is taking a table of ten; please let Emmett know if
you can make this outstanding event. The cost for this is
$30.00. Dave, we commend you, again.

Bruce Wenzel (the guy in the lovely pink coat), welcomed one Rotarian,
Barnie Shuhi, from Boynton-Lantana Club. We also had Barbara
Blocker, Jim's wife as visitor, and Lynn Huckle. We said farewell
to our young exchange student, Olli Turunen, from Finland. Olli is
a warm, friendly young man who has visited with us numerous times while
being here as an exchange student. He will be spending a few days
with his brother, in the Miami area, who is a musician there, and a
former Rotary Exchange Student. He plans to come back to see us in
a couple of years. He states it has been an incredible year for
him.

Tony Allerton, Sergeant at Arms, collected $122.00 today, thanks to the
generosity of Anne Bright and Bruce Williams. Anne also had the
ticket that allowed her to try her luck at the "green hat"
winnings; the pot is now up to $152.00.
The Sister Cities Golf Classic will be held June 22, at the Delray
Beach Golf Club. It is a fund-raiser, being held by The Delray
Beach Sister Cities Committee, to benefit Atlantic High School Student
Exchange Program. It begins 7:00 a.m.; shotgun start at 8:00
a.m. For more details, call Ned Gusty, 243-7080, or Robert
Barcinski, 243-7011.
Our guest speaker today was John Callahan, Director of Delray Beach
Library. He had prepared a slide show for us, but as luck would
have it, his machine failed, as he was about to begin. He did a
tremendous job of explaining in detail, without visual aids. His
speech was about the new proposed library. The whole thing is about
s-p-a-c-e! Our library has run out of space. In 1950, when
this library was built, we had a population of 6,000 people; today, we
have a population of 60,000. Our library has been expanded five
times already. Most of the funding for our library is private
funding. The library owns the building, the city of Delray Beach
owns the land. CRA owns the land on the proposed site. They
are negotiating with CRA to swap the sites. Our library had 310,000
visitors this past year, (with limited parking). Of course, the new
building will house many more books and computers, in its 50,000 square
foot, two story building, at a cost of about twelve million. Mr.
Callahan tells us they are about half way there. They hope to have
ground breaking next Spring, with completion by 2004. This location
is on West Atlantic Avenue, across from the Tennis Center.

Egon Kurz did a tremendous job of welcoming all at the front door.
Next week, our greeter will be Joyce Lunsford. Remember, it is our
officer installation meeting, please try to attend.
