ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
November 12, 2002

Today, we were warmly greeted by Mark Denkler, who gave us a total "run down"
on everything you need to know about Delray Beach Rotary Club.

President Pat Archer presided over the meeting; Ron Backer gave the
invocation. Jim Pignato led the singing, followed by one of his "factual"
jokes. Of couse, Bruce Williams was in the back corner making beautiful
music. His practice makes perfect!

We sang Happy Birthday to John Arnold and Mark Denkler. Joyce Lunsford
donated $80.00, in remembrance of what would have been her deceased husband's
eightieth birthday.

Emmett Gumm was honored with greeting the visitors today. We had five
visiting Rotarians; two of them foreign visitors. Two of our members did
make ups; Joyce Lunsford and Ray Ripley (sounds like Ray really enjoyed his
make up). Our banner was paid for by Art NeJame, but all our visitors were
"repeats," having previously received our banner.

Tony Allerton, our Sergeant at Arms, collected a whopping $213.00 today.
This was, in part, the donations given by John Arnold ($5.00), Mark Denkler
($41.00), and Joyce Lunsford, ($80.00).

ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Pat Archer noted that our Rotary emblem is posted
out front of Ellie's Diner, announcing that our club meets there. This is a
long awaited, great project.

Emmett Gumm brought to our attention the Gridiron Classic. We propose to
send less fortunate children from the Orlando area to the Gridiron Classic.
The reason that area was chosen, rather than local Delray Beach youngsters,
is the problem of transportation and lodging.

Emmett also reminded us of the Entertainment Books for sale, for fundraising
for the club.

Bill Adams announced our fundraiser, the holiday wreath sale. They will be
sold at the Delray Green Market on four Saturdays following Thanksgiving. He
sent around a sign up sheet for volunteers to work the booth to sell the
wreaths. We also will be taking orders for the wreaths from members and
their friends. These will be fresh, local greenery, and should remain fresh
throughout the holidays.

Lou Cucci reminded us of our Holiday Party, Delray Golf Course, December 5.
Our club has invited the Delray Beach Sunrise and the Boynton-Lantana Clubs
to participate with us. It should be a great time to meet new fellow
Rotarians. Get your reservation in ASAP. Lou also put the menu on each
table; sounds yummy. The price per person is only $40.00 and a new unwrapped
toy. The toys will be donated to the KIDS and COPS Annual Holiday Toy Drive.

Barney Shuhi did another good job of telling us about this month's Rotary
news in the Rotary magazine. She concentrated on the Rotary Foundation.

Leo Phillips, as November Program Chairman, introduced our guest----- Jess
Sowards, giving our Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year of July 1,
2001-July 1, 2002. Thanks to many of the participating members who
graciously helped Jess put this together. He did a slide show, very plainly
identifying how our club monies are distributed. The visual showed the "pie"
system of where each money is allocated, and to whom. The basic structure
is: The Rotary Foundation; Delray Beach Foundation; and Delray Beach
Operations.

Jess explained the Rotary International Foundation "Mission Statement." He
also explained the various levels of Paul Harris Member Recognition, and the
Rotary Bequest Society, with its six levels.

Our goal is 100 percent participation for the Polio Eradication program. At
this morning's board meeting, it was decided that we should try to donate
$100.00 each, for two years. Wouldn't it be worth $200.00 from each of us,
to know we had finally reached the goal of Polio eradication?

NEXT WEEK: Our guest speaker will be Lhisa Almashy, Executive Director of
Milagro Center.  I'm sure many of you have wondered about the Milagro Center;
come and find out! Our scheduled greeter for next week is Herb Furry. (Herb
it's in print!)

(Almost forgot about last week's quiz: Baseball)
