ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
November 26, 2002

Since it's almost Thanksgiving, most of you are very busy preparing a feast,
or preparing to eat a feast. I'm sure most of you are way too busy for
reading a lengthy bulletin, and Nina and Herb Furry, our printers, deserve a
vacation also, therefore, I will try to be brief!

President Pat Archer called the meeting to order. Gerry Meeks gave the
invocation. Jimmy Weatherspoon, in his best voice, led the singing. Bruce
Williams played "sweet music" (Tennessee Waltz). We sang Happy Birthday to
Rel Moorcroft, who graciously donated $77.00 for his 77th birthday; happy,
happy birthday Rel.

Anne Bright, who won the green hat pot last week, has spent this week being
very generous, by donating most of her winnings to charity. She donated
$100.00 to our Rotary Fund, as well as others. Anne we all thank you for
your generosity. Barnie Shuhie also donated $10.00 to the Rotary Foundation.

Bruce Wenzel welcomed back Bill Talen (who donated $20.00), John Hearn and
about seven other visiting Rotarians. It was great to see all of you
migrating south again for the winter. We had make ups from Jim Atchison, Art
Reef, Lyn Huckle, Dave Harden and Gerry Meeks.

Pat Archer presented Diane Pacheco, from Brockton, MA, with our banner.
Diane Pacheco is also being presented at this time for membership into our
Rotary Club; this is the first publication. She is Coordinator of Literacy
Coalition.

Tony Allerton, Sergeant at Arms, collected a whopping $275.00 today, thanks
to all the generous donors.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

ROTARY HOLIDAY PARTY - DECEMBER 5, 2002, 7:00-10:00 P.M., DELRAY BEACH GOLF
CLUB. Contact Lou Cucci 330-8445, or Lyn Huckle 732-8224. Only $40.00 per
person; live music; great food. Please bring new unwrapped toy for "KIDS and
Cops 12th Annual Holiday Toy Drive."

FRIDAY, NOV. 29, 2:00-4:00 P.M., BILL AND CHARLOTTE ADAMS' HOUSE, 19 NW 24TH
COURT, (274-8398). This is to prepare the Holiday Wreaths for our club to
sell, for fundraiser. Many of us will be available this day; please come and
help. The price of the wreaths will be $25.00, and will be sold the next
four Saturdays at the Green Market in Delray Beach. Our Entertainment Books
will also be on sale at the Green Market Booth. Let's all participate in
this fundraiser.

Leo Phillips, our Program Chairman for November, has had a wonderful month of
great programs for us, including today's program. Leo introduced our guest
speaker, Jeanne Sicconi. Ms. Sicconi is the program coordinator for the Palm
Beach County Literacy Coalition's America Reads program.

Some of the statistics Ms. Sicconi gave us were astounding. 90 million
people in the United States have no literacy skills. 22% of Palm Beach
County's residents are at lowest level of literacy; 31% of Delray Beach's
residents are at low or no reading skills.

Our club has been looking at ways to support the growth of adult literacy in
our community. Lyn Huckle is our contact for this program. Anyone
interested in working on this program should see Lyn, or call 1-800-273-1030.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! BE THANKFUL FOR LIVING IN THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN
THE WORLD!!!!!!!
