ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
December 10, 2002

This year is rapidly coming to an end; can you believe it? There is so much
going on. This is the time of year that we get too busy; let's not forget to
take time to be thankful for being so blessed. Our Holiday Party was an
overwhelming success. Lou Cucci and Lyn Huckle did a tremendous job
organizing it; we thank each of you.

Our meeting was presided over by President Pat Archer. Hack Allen gave a
moving reading, then a prayer. Jimmy Weatherspoon, in his usual jovial
manner, led us in our theme song Smile; then a holiday song. Bruce Williams,
as always, sounded wonderful.

Harvey Brown welcomed nine visiting Rotarians. Our guests today were David
Richards, Scott Armstrong (Dave's son), and Rev. Andy Hall. Andy, it sure is
good to see you visiting us again. (Too cold in Arkansas?) It was also
great to see Shirley Clark back with us, after such a long time.

We had such good Rotarians as Tom Cook (3x's), Lou Cucci, Dave Harden, and
Barnie Shuhi doing make ups, so as to keep our club among those at the top of
the list in our district.

After much arm twisting, Tony Allerton, Sergeant at Arms, collected $150.00
today.

Fred Bonardi seems to always be wearing two hats, or more, at the meeting.
Today, he did a fine job as Greeter. He was at the front door, with a smile
on his face, and a warm handshake. Then, he warmly gave the stock market
report. The market was actually up on the day he was to give the report. He
did mention that the market has never been down more than three years in a
row; therefore, next year has to be better!

This is the second publication for Diane Pacheco, as a new member.

Today, Gil Forbes introduced our guest speakers, Diane Corolla, Director of
CRA, who in turn introduced Tim Hernandez, of Atlantic Grove Partners, LLC.
He informed us of the new complex being built on West Atlantic Avenue, west
of the Tennis Center. It will be used as mixed media; retail, and condos on
the top floors. The structure will be three types of architecture. It will
cover approximately 4 1/2 acres. For more information on this, call CRA, or
Atlantic Grove Partners at 279-8706, Ext. 207.

The Election Committee for officers for 2003-2004, which consists of Dave
O'Connell (Chairman), Herb Furry and Nancy Owens, have chosen the following
as officers:

President: Mark Denkler
Pres. Elect: Bill Adams
Vice Pres: Georgina Kerr-Jarrett
Exec. Sec: Rel Moorcroft
Secretary: Jess Sowards
Treasurer: Leo Phillips

Director: Dave Armstrong
Director: Bill Arnst
Director: Steve Bates
Director: Ann Bright
Director: Lyn Huckle
Director: Ellie Lowery
Director: Art NeJame
Director: Ernie Simon
Past Pres: Pat Archer

This roster was brought before the club today, December 12, 2002, voted on,
and unanimously accepted.

Last month, at the Board Meeting, it was voted on for our club to ask each
member to donate $100.00 each for this year and next, to do our part in the
worldwide campaign to stamp out Polio by 2005. Leo Phillips, our
International Chairman, has put out a plea to our club to help. This is his
plea:

"As we enter the holiday season, we are reminded that it is the season for
giving. We have a lot of blessings to be thankful for. As we make our
year-end charitable contributions, we ask that you consider your
tax-deductible contributions for Rotary's polio eradication and Paul Harris
programs. Our club has set a goal of $200.00 per member over a two-year
period for polio eradication and $100.00 per member per year for the Paul
Harris program. Your contribution to the important works of Rotary will be
greatly appreciated by those many people whose lives are touched by this
work. Please make your checks payable to the Rotary Foundation and forward
them to Rel Moorcroft or Leo Phillips."

Rel Moorcroft, who keeps records of everything, gave me a list of
contributors, for Polio Plus, to date.
Those already meeting their goal of $100.00 for this year are:
Allerton, Tony
Arnst, Bill
Bright, Ann ($200.00)
Doud, Wally
Huckle, Lyn ($200.00)
King, Nancy
Ochs, Marilyn
Owens, Nancy ($200.00)
Shuhi, Barnie
Simon, Ernie

Those that are working to achieve this goal are: Mert Anderson, Pat Archer,
Rich Connell, Lou Cucci, Candace Etzler, Emmett Gumm, Ellie Lowery, Rel
Moorcroft, Art NeJame, and Leo Phillips. That is twenty members; come on,
the rest of you, we need your help! (If I have omitted anyone, please let me
know.)

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Wreaths are all sold out! Better luck next year. For last
minute shopping, there are only three Entertainment books left. Next week
will be our last meeting until next year! There will be no meetings on
December 24, and 31.

Starting next year, the bulletin will not be sent to the printer, then sent
out by mail. If you do not have e-mail, or wish to only have the bulletin
written, please confer with Rel Moorcroft. He will copy the e-mail and send
copies to those members wishing only printed copy. This saves as much as
$55.00 weekly, in expenses. Rel can answer any questions on this subject.
