ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
March 11, 2003
If you think I had forgotten you, you are wrong! I have been agonizing over
the fact that my computer was at "Dr." Blocker's "hospital" all week. The
"surgery" was successful; here I am! By the way, Jim (Blocker) is still
offering computer technology to our members, for a $40.00 donation to our
club. This is a very generous offer; thanks Jim.
Since President Pat Archer was away for our meeting, President-elect Mark
Denkler did a fine job of presiding over our meeting.
Our Board of Directors started out the day, at 7:30 a.m., with a meeting at
Ellie's Marilyn Room. This meeting was well attended, and much was
accomplished. All members of the club are invited, and encouraged to attend
these meetings, once a month, on the second Tuesday.
Today, (Tue.) Joyce Lunsford gave a lovely invocation. Wally Doud, along
with the lovely music of Bruce Williams, led our singing. Of course, we sang
our theme song, Smile, along with When Irish Eyes are Smiling.
Bill and Charlotte Adams are celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary. We
wish you many more happy years together!
Marilyn Ochs is our representative for our Foreign Exchange Student. We are
sponsoring a female high school student from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Marilyn gave
us a brief background on this vivacious young woman, including a picture.
Marilyn is soliciting lodging for her. If you, or anyone you know is
interested in providing a "home" for her, please contact Marilyn. It does
not have to be on a permanent basis; please see Marilyn for more details.
Steve Bates has given us information on The Delray Beach National Little
League. As many of you know, we have been a major sponsor of this
organization, since its inception in Delray Beach in 1953. These games are
played at Miller Park (Just south of Linton Blvd.). At our board meeting, it
was discussed that our club have a "Little League Night." It would be a fun
evening for us to see our efforts "in action." The motto of the organization
is: "Join us and become part of one of Delray's longest standing traditions
where building character in our young people is the most important part of
the program!" For more information about the Little League organization, go
to: www.littleleague.org.
Joyce Lunsford is in charge of our club scrapbook. If you have clippings, or
other information on our members, please present them to Joyce.
Harvey Brown welcomed our visitors. We had seven visiting Rotarians,
including Oswald and Johanne Wertz, father and son, from Germany. Jim
Atchison presented our banner to Mitch Scott, of Lewisburg, West Virginia.
Sergeant at Arms Fred Bonardi collected a total of $100.00, with Dr. Styperek
rounding it out to an even $100.00. Gil Forbes had the ticket to draw for
the ace of spades; did not find it. The pot is now over $400.00.
We had no speaker today, however, we still had a terrific meeting!
ANNOUNCEMENT: PAINT UP DELRAY!
This event will take place on Saturday, April 12. Our club participates in
this event each year. It is a city sponsored event; looking for volunteers
from all organizations. The event will take place in the Rosemont

prizes. Please help us out; we desperately need help from all of you. The
