ROTARY RAMBLINGS
DELRAY BEACH ROTARY CLUB
March 18, 2003
Looks like Bill Adams, Vice-president, is now in practice for first position.
He did a fine job today presiding over our meeting, in the absence of
President Archer and President-elect Denkler. We sure have great leadership
in our club, don't you agree?
Dave Harden gave a lovely invocation. Maestro Wally Doud did a terrific job
leading the chorus, along with Bruce Williams' accompaniment.
Georgina Kerr-Jarrett gave a lovely "dance routine" regarding the stock
market. She is such a positive person; stating the market is "hovering"
today.
Harvey Brown greeted about seven visiting Rotarians. Dave Armstrong
presented Joel Geller, of Abington, MA with our banner. Bill Adams had as
his guest today, Chris Sullivan, owner of 3M Window Experts, a new business
in Delray Beach.
We had five of our members doing make ups: John Arnold, Lyn Huckle, Leo
Phillips, Hume Rennick and Dave Harden. We thank each of you for your
dedication.
Roy Simon, Sergeant at Arms, collected $127.00 today. Among that was a
$50.00 check from George Kientzy for his birthday, even though he was unable
to attend. (George, if you think you got out of us singing to you, you are
wrong! We are saving it until you return.) George, Happy Birthday, and
thanks for your generous donation.
Egon Kurz gave a report from the Sunshine Committee. He mentioned that Lew
Currier's sister, Maxine Rice, has passed away, and offered our condolences.
Also, our dear Ernie Simon is feeling lowly; he's in Bethesda Hospital, Room
3024. Ernie, we wish you well!
Dave O'Connell is in charge of the Paint Up Delray Project for our club. He
is looking for 12-15 volunteers to paint a house, part of our community
projects, in conjunction with the city of Delray Beach. The project is
Saturday, April 12. They will meet at 8:00 a. m.; be done by noon. Come on
guys, grab a paint brush. Call Dave, and help out!
Barnie Shuhi, even though she was not well, came to the meeting today to give
her monthly Rotarian Magazine review. (She also donated two lovely pairs of
Rotary earrings, to be raffled at the Bingo Party.)
Today, our guest speaker was introduced by Roy Simon, since Ernie is in the
hospital. (He had nothing else to do, so he called Roy to fill in for him.)
Our speaker was Brandon Cunningham, Director of Corporate Sales, for the
Marlins! He also had Bob Eckerd, head of ticket sales with him. Cunningham
has a pretty impressive background in sports operations. He gave us details
about the team players. Their opener is scheduled for March 31. The games
will be televised on Fox, PAX, and several local radio stations; but there's
nothing like going out to the ballgame, as Wally Doud can testify. He led
the group with the old favorite: Take Me Out To The Ballgame! The meeting
ended with Mr. Cunningham "throwing out trivia" and several people winning
hats and shirts, etc., from the Marlins Team.
REMINDER: THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 6:30 P.M. BINGO PARTY, ELLIE'S FLAMINGO ROOM.
It will be a fun evening. There are many terrific raffle prizes. If there
are any coin collectors among you, listen up: Lyn Huckle donated an
uncirculated $50.00 Canadian gold coin weighing one ounce. This will be
offered as a Silent Auction item at our Bingo Party. George Kientzy donated
a "his" and "her" watch. There are many more goodies to be raffled off.
This is along with the lucrative winnings of the Bingo games. If you haven't
purchased your tickets for the event, please call or E-mail Rel Moorcroft (as
soon as you finish reading this). His e-mail is: relmorcroft@aol.com. His
phone # is:495-5376. See you at the Bingo Party!
