ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
April 8, 200

This morning, at 7:30 a.m., about seventeen of your fellow Rotarians were
meeting at Ellie's Marilyn Room. It was our monthly Board of Directors'
meeting. We were delighted to see so many of our membership present, and
participating in the meeting. More members should make an effort to attend,
and to see how hard this board works to make our Rotary Club the best it can
be. Marilyn Ochs presented a newspaper article, featuring our foreign
exchange student, soon to arrive. (We are still looking for lodging for this
young lady.) Steve Bates informed us that our Rotary sponsored Little League
Team is in first place. (For those of you that want to support them; they
play at Miller Park, off Linton Boulevard.) It was decided that our annual
wreath sales be dedicated to our international projects. Jess Sowards
presented our treasurer's report. Many ideas were exchanged; please join us
for participation next month (second Tuesday of each month).

President-elect Mark Denkler presided over our meeting today, doing his usual
re"mark"able job. Steve Bates gave a lovely invocation. Wally Doud, in his
usual cheery mood, led us in singing. Bruce Williams, we cannot compliment
you enough for your beautiful entertainment.

Leo Phillips informed us today that we have met 64% of our goal for Polio
Plus. Come on "y'all" we need everyone's participation. We can do this.

Bruce Wenzel welcomed our visiting Rotarians, first of all, honoring six of
our "snowbirds." Fred Bonardi had as his guest, Gary Sommers. Georgina
Kerr-Jarrett had as her guest, John Callahan, Director of Delray Beach
Library. We welcome each of you and hope you will come back soon. Our
members doing make ups were Nancy Owens and Hume Rennick. This is so
important in Rotary; thank both of you.

Georgina Kerr-Jarrett gave us a wonderful "narration" of the stock market.
Before attending the meeting, the market was up, but as she commented, it is
in constant change. She is very positive about the future of the market,
however.

Sergeant at Arms, Tony Allerton, collected $104.00. Bernie Shapiro donated a
whopping $25.00, in honor of Egon Kurz's "good deeds." I don't know what he
was referring to, but I can tell you, all one has to do is ask Egon to help
out; he always says "yes." Again, I will publicly thank him for doing such a
fantastic job as emcee at our recent Bingo Fundraiser. Along with his
ability as a public speaker, he has wit!

We were informed that Nancy King's daughter is soon to star on an upcoming
television show. Nancy, we will be expecting a report from you regarding
this; sounds exciting.

Mark Denkler introduced our guest speaker today; Digby Bridges, Architect.
Digby is a former member of our Rotary Club. He is a native of South Africa.
Today, he took us on a visual tour of South Africa. He showed us a video of
restored, historic places, explaining the wonderful architecture. We took a
tour through the wine country; the mountains were in the background. After
watching this video, it makes you want to pack up and go to South Africa. It
was a lovely presentation; thank you, Digby.

Next week: Our guest speaker will be Fatima NeJame. She will be presenting a
lecture on "digital cameras." If you have a digital camera, bring it to
"class." This is a short summary of her upcoming national tour lectures.

Next week, Shirley Clark will also be presenting "double" Student and
Teachers of the Month.

Remember: Saturday, April 12, Paint Up Delray. Dave O'Connell is holding a
paint brush for you! Please call Dave and volunteer:391-4970.

Egon's Extras:
A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.
A backward poet writes inverse.
When a clock is hungry it goes back four seconds.
(More Egon nonsense to follow!)
