ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
April 22, 2003
On this fine Spring day, our Rotary Club meeting was presided over by
President-elect Mark Denkler. I hope all of you had a lovely
Passover/Easter.
Rev. Jim Atchison, in his wisdom, gave a lovely three part dialogue before
his prayer. Jimmy Weatherspoon bravely led us in singing, acappella. (I
guess Bruce Williams is still looking for the Easter Bunny.)
Joyce Lunsford is celebrating her birthday, and gave the club $79.00. Egon
gave a dollar in honor of her birthday, making a round $80.00. Happy
Birthday, Joyce. Dave and Linda Richards are celebrating 29 years of marital
bliss. He donated $29.00 in honor of this. We thank both of you for your
generosity.
Harvey Brown had an easy job of welcoming only two visiting Rotarians today.
Fred Bonardi, Sergeant at Arms, collected a total of $196.00 today. John
Arnold, a very happy grandpa, donated $10.00 in honor of his good time with
his grandchildren hunting Easter Eggs.
We had four of our Rotarians doing make ups: Joyce Lunsford, Nancy King,
Gerry Meeks and Hume Rennick. We thank each of you.
ANNOUNCEMENT: We have found a home for our exchange student; Bill and
Charlotte Adams have graciously accepted our student as their "daughter" for
her stay with us. Let's all support them, by helping entertain this
vivacious young lady. Again, Bill and Charlotte, we salute you.
Well, we had a big winner for the green hat today. Leo Phillips picked the
ace of spades from the deck; winning over $600.00. Congratulations, Leo!
Our club has been notified that one of our long time members, Ron Wills has
passed on. Our condolences go out to Bettie and the family. Their residence
address is: 204 Morningside Circle, Birmingham, AL 35213.
We also congratulate Egon Kurz on his golfing accomplishment.
Georgina Kerr-Jarrett informed us that the stock market was see-sawing at
noon. Lots of good things ahead, however.
Today, Art NeJame introduced a very special guest speaker, his wife Fatima.
She is extremely knowledgeable of digital camera imaging. She gave us a
lovely slide show and explained how digital cameras are blowing away film
cameras on the market. She explained how when you buy a digital camera, the
more pixels, the better the resolution. For anyone serious about
photography, I suggest you enroll in her one day workshop, explaining digital
photography. The NeJame's have a two month tour throughout the northeast on
one day workshops on this subject. We are the lucky ones to have experts
like Fatima and Art in our area. For more information: www.workshop.org.
(Or, you may be able to corner Art and ask a question.) It was certainly an
enjoyable, short lecture; thank you, Fatima.
Next Week: Girl Scouts will be our program. The following week: Our speaker
will be Ken Day, Manager of Boca Airport. (For all you flying buffs.)
REMINDER: DELRAY AFFAIR, FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY! Even if you have not
signed up to help, show up anyway; you as a Rotarian are needed! The
location is in the Veteran's Park area, on the west side of the intracoastal.
Our new Rotary Banner will be on display, beckoning all the hungry and
thirsty fairgoers to our booth. BE THERE!
