ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
June 3, 2003
Wow! Since our president, president-elect and vice-president were away, some
of you thought we would be without leadership, didn't you? To our pleasant
surprise, our meeting was well presided over by none other than Georgina
Kerr-Jarrett. She even commanded the attention of some of her buddies, whispering
at a table in the corner! (Won't say which one.)
Then, our invocation was well given by Rich Connell. Of course, our old
standby, Jimmy Weatherspoon made us all happy, leading a couple of well known
songs. Bruce Williams, your music is soothing laughter to all of us.
Ernie and Norma Simon are celebrating 43 years of marriage; he was so happy
he donated $43.00, in honor of their anniversary. We congratulate both of you.
Bruce Wenzel welcomed two visiting Rotarians, and two guests of Shirley
Clark, Christina Hilsman & David Weaver, of Hilsman and Weaver Tax & Accounting
Services, Inc. Lou Cucci paid for, but did not present a banner. Make ups were
done by Gerry Meeks, Lew Currier, and Sylvia Pecaro. We thank each of you
for helping our club to be among the top clubs in attendance.
Georgina Kerr-Jarrett, being on a roll, also gave the stock report. She was
very jubilant, because it looks like the market is on the rise (at least for
now).
Our Sergeant at Arms, Ernie Simon collected $126.00 today. This amount
included his $43.00 for his anniversary, and $20.00 donated by Lyn Huckle, in honor
of Rel Moorcroft. Rel was released from the hospital and came directly to
our Rotary Meeting. He is the knowledge of our club; we all salute you, Rel,
"Mr. Rotary." We do thank Jess Sowards for "sitting in" for Rel.
Since no one has won the "green hat," the prize exceeds $148.00; time to get
serious.
Rich Connell, serving as Program Chairperson, had the pleasure of introducing
another of his coworkers, Danielle Gallo, Marketing/Promotions/Special
Events, Recreation Supervisor III. Danielle's title weighs more than she does!
This little lady has a tremendous responsibility. She gave all of us handouts of
Delray Beach Parks and Recreation.
Their Mission Statement reads: The City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation
Department will enrich the quality of life for the people of Delray Beach by
providing significant recreational opportunities in exemplary park
environments.
Space does not permit me to go into detail about the responsibilities of our
Delray Beach Parks and Recreation. If you did not receive one of Ms. Gallo's
brochures, giving detailed description of their activities and locations of
the parks and their functions, I'm sure Rich Connell can procure one for you.
You may also log on to: MyDelrayBeach.com; or call 243-7274.
We thank Ms. Gallo for sharing this information with us, and hope she will
come back again.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Our annual Installation of Officers/Directors will take place
on June 24, 2003, during our luncheon meeting.
NEXT WEEK:
Rich Connell will be introducing Mike Borton, Supervisor of 505 Teen Center.
He will be accompanied by the new president of this Center.
A couple of Kurz Kuties:
Murphy's Other Laws-
Everyone has a photographic memory; some don't have film!
He who laughs last, thinks slowest.
A day without sunshine is like, well, night.
Back up my hard drive? How do I put it in reverse?????
