ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
August 12, 2003

A group of dedicated Rotarians started their day with a 7:30 a. m. Rotary
Board Meeting. Again, any member of Delray Beach Rotary Club is invited to sit
in at these meetings. It is held the second Tuesday morning, 7:30 a.m. in the
Marilyn Room at Ellie's Diner. If you attend, you will see how hard they
really work for the benefit of our club and the causes we sponsor.

President Mark Denkler presided over a "well done" meeting today. Jimmy
Weatherspoon gave the invocation; led the "choir;" and threatened to "take up
collection."

Bruce Williams sure does make dining pleasant, with his lovely renditions on
piano.

Today, we had three people celebrating birthdays: Pat Archer, contributing
$39.00 (in memory of her 39th birthday); John Callahan, who we hit last week for
anniversary, gave $10.00; Janus Styperek, donating double for his birthday,
with $50.00. We thank each of you for your generous donations, and wish you
many, happy healthy years.

Hack and Gloria Allen are celebrating 56 years of marriage; he donated $56.00
in honor of this. Hack and Gloria, we wish you many more years of marital
bliss.

Georgiana Kerr-Jarrett gave the stock report. She stated the market was up
today before noon. It had leveled off by report time, however. The economy is
growing and there is more action in the bond market.

Bruce Wenzel had an easy job today, greeting only one visiting Rotarian, Rex
Welton, of NC. We had a visitor today, who was a guest of Mark Denkler, Kurt
Godfrey of Bob's Printing. Kurt has been approved by the board, and is being
presented for membership. He will be published again next week.

Ernie Simon, Sergeant at Arms, really "raked in the green" today, with
$217.00, thanks to all our birthdays and anniversaries. Fred Runkel gave $5.00 for
the banner, which was not presented.

We had a winner today! Jess Sowards held the ticket to draw; he picked the
Ace of Spades, winning over $300.00. Jess, congratulations!

Jon Simon, (no relation to Ernie and Roy) Aeronautical Engineer, retired, was
inducted into membership today. He is a former member of this club. Jon, we
welcome you back. I spoke with Jon after the meeting; he stated the club is
"better than before." Dave O'Connell sponsored Jon; Emmett Gumm read our
favorite formalities.

Bill and Charlotte Adams introduced our Rotary International Exchange
Student, Leticia "Lele" Camargo. Bill and Charlotte have assumed the responsibility
of this young lady, including getting all her immunizations from the health
department, all the forms in order, and enrolling her in her senior year at
Atlantic High School. We must all "pitch in" and help them to entertain this
young lady. Bill and Charlotte, we thank you so much for caring for our "Rotary
Daughter."

Bill Adams introduced our guest speaker, Linda Most, Business Librarian, Palm
Beach County Board of County Commissioners, Palm Beach County Library
Systems. She is responsible for the business information collection at the Main
Library in West Palm Beach and serves the business community through outreach,
tours, and one-to-one assistance with business research. She also teaches an
introduction to electronic business information at the Main Library. We, as
residents of Palm Beach County, have access to all these programs, by only
applying and obtaining a Palm Beach County library card.

It seemed very interesting that she was speaking to an audience that held
John Callahan, Director, of our Delray City Library. She was giving information
on our city library, that I hope John can update us with in the near future.

Ms. Most gave each of us a packet, introducing us to the many features
available to the residents of Palm Beach County.

I just spoke with Rel Moorcroft. He stated that he will be going to
Indianapolis, IN on Monday, hoping his doctor there can help him. He does not know
how long he will be gone; we wish him the best. Please keep Rel in your
prayers.

I received a e-mail from Fred Bonardi; he went through his surgery quite well
and was very pleased with the report. He wishes to thank all those that are
thinking of him. He sounded very positive, and hopes to be back to the
meetings in September. Fred, we all wish you well; hurry back.

Next Week: Lou Cucci will be collecting your money for the Rotary Summer
Social, being held on August 21 (Thursday), 2003, 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Ellie's
Flamingo Room. We will have social time with one free drink, hors d' oeuvres; a
lovely entree; entertainment with music and dancing by Sirdancealot, your
friendly Englishman, from London. All this for only $35.00 per person. (You
can't beat that anywhere else.) Please call Lou and make reservations at:
330-8445, or Mark Denkler at 276-6570.

Bill Adams has informed us that on September 11, a barbecue will be held for
the GSE Group from the Netherlands. This is a great opportunity for us to get
to meet with them. Lyn Huckle and Georgina Kerr-Jarrett will be hosting some
of this group. The price for the barbecue is $10.00 per person. It will be
held at Wright By The Sea. Contact Bill for more information.

We are working hard on achieving our goal for Polio Plus; many of you have
not yet made this commitment.  We are depending on each of you to come through;
thanks.

Next week, Nancy King has graciously accepted to send our newsletter out. I
will be in Tennessee, rejuvenating my accent, going barefoot, and smelling
fresh mountain air! See ya in two weeks.
