ROTARY RAMBLINGS
December 2, 2003
In Queue with "Q"
Just a salad today Harv? Call me "Q".
An in-depth look at Harvard Q. Brown, as covered by our correspondent on the=
=20
heat, Foggy Bottom.
Harvard Q. Brown, war hero from the death filled skies of Mig alley, Korea,=20
cut from the same bolt of patriotic fabric as Jessica Lynch, determined to m=
ake=20
that country safe and help escalate property values for the South Korean=20
natives and who came home with the same determination; to ensure the new Sou=
th=20
Florida barrier islands natives affordable housing on the cutting edge of=20
Hurricane alley. Let=E2=80=99s tune in.
Meatballs on the salad today Harv? "Call me "Q". "Just a little garnish, d=
on
=E2=80=99t ya=E2=80=99 know." Bit o=E2=80=99 this corned beef, just to keep=
the old=E2=80=99 cholesterol=20
guessing. Gotta=E2=80=99 have that protein. Ooops, bit o=E2=80=99 that chi=
cken."
Tune in next time! Find out more than you ever cared to know about your=20
favorite table mates! (Roasted with love.)
Mark Denkler was in charge today. Jimmy Weatherspoon led the wailing,=20
accompanied by Bruce Williams, and Nancy King gave the invocation. Announce=
ments=20
included a reminder of the holiday party Lou Cucci and Lyn Huckle have put=20
together at the Delray Beach Golf Club this Friday. A ticket is $40.00.
Fred Bonardi collected $87.00 as Sergeant At Arms, and also gave the market=20
report.
Question of the Week: Why is there a plate of lemon slices on table number=20
one -- and nowhere else?
Setting up the room last week: song books, Green Hat, cash tray, etc. a=20
Sergeant At Arms arm band, not seen before in this century, popped up. Tony=
=20
Allerton wore it as proudly as he did any costume in days of yore when he st=
rode=20
the boards at the venerable Delray Beach Playhouse.
Everybody=E2=80=99s favorite Uncle, Egon, was quizzed about the longevity of=
his=20
marriage (64 years). One comment: "The husband who wants a happy marriage=20=
should=20
keep his checkbook open and his mouth shut!" I am reminded what Samuel=20
Coleridge said, "The most happy marriage I can imagine would be the union of=
a deaf=20
man and a blind woman."
Our program today was Paul Barber - Meaningful Relationships -- and was=20
introduced by Bill Adams.
You must communicate and communicate appropriately and learn behavior traits=
.=20
You must pay attention to dynamics of relationships. Be realistic about=20
expectations. What are your expectations -- at home, at work, of your frien=
ds. =20
Try placing yourself in the other person=E2=80=99s space.
Treat your children with respect. Understanding is often difficult. =20
Acceptance is a must. You are not "everyman." Be what you are, not what yo=
u think=20
someone wants you to be. Be positive.
Children, of any age, are watching you. Even when they are adults the=20
relationship stays parent and child, until old age reverses the process. Lo=
ok for=20
substance in yourself and in others.
Some people are actually uncomfortable with compliments, probably as a resul=
t=20
of parents who did not care enough to actually learn -- on the job. Learn t=
o=20
listen, but attempt to read between the lines.
More comments on marriage: Dick Martin, former "Laugh In" host, is quoted,=20
"I belong to bridegrooms anonymous. Whenever I feel like getting married, t=
hey=20
send over a lady in a housecoat and hair curlers to burn some toast for me."
No one had a birthday and no one celebrated an anniversary. Harvard Q. Brow=
n=20
introduced one guest.
A bit more. A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can=20
spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
Down Memory Lane:
On Tuesday, November 3, 1998, it was written: "Bingo Gene" (Webb) announced=
=20
that "Bingo For Scholarships" will lose its founding father after the =E2=
=80=9999=20
event. Nunzio Allerton wept openly and the place was a mess for a few momen=
ts. =20
Spreading his palms down, "Mr. Enthusiasm" encouraged the club to find anoth=
er=20
-- of his ilk -- to take over after the =E2=80=9999 event. Harvard Q. Brown=
reported=20
that Mary McCarty might be a prospect. Then "Bingo Gene" wept openly.
Next week=E2=80=99s Program: Kim Amigone from Aids to Victims of Domestic A=
buse=20
(AVDA).
This week=E2=80=99s scribe: S. O=E2=80=99Teric
Next week=E2=80=99s scribe: Nancy King
And finally. Masters and Johnson in one of their studies determined that=20
married men live longer than single men, but married men are a lot more will=
ing=20
to die.=20
