Rotary Ramblings
December 30, 2003
Our final meeting of 2003 was called to order by President Mark Denkler. =20
Tony Allerton delivered the invocation. Steve Rich led the chorus and we al=
l did=20
our best to sing Auld Lang Syne accompanied by Bruce Williams. A rousing=20
rendition of "Happy Birthday" was sung to Bill Talon.
Harvey Brown made his way to the podium to introduce our visiting Rotarians.=
=20
Joining us were Cam Murphy from Urbanna, Illinois, Al Hulse from Huntington=20
Station, New York and back again for the second consecutive week was our=20
international visitor, Colin McLernon, from Bogor, Indonesia. Colin present=
ed a=20
banner from his club. Our banner was donated by Mark Denkler but was not gi=
ven=20
away. =20
The great news on Wall Street was delivered by Fred Bonardi, who reported=20
that people are happy because it has been a very, very good year. Today has=
been=20
relatively quiet and the market was down a bit this morning but nobody=E2=
=80=99s=20
complaining. =20
Sergeant-At-Arms Ernie Simon raised $184.00 for the scholarship fund. =20
Birthday boy Bill Talon=E2=80=99s share was $79. Visitor Al Hulse gave $10=20=
for a "Happy New=20
Year" and additional dollars were gathered from our AWOLS. Perfect=20
attendance (through make ups) is one of the foundations and requirements of=20=
Rotary,=20
so if you miss a meeting, remember to make up at another club!=20
Seated at the head table was Carissa Konttinen, one of our Rotary scholars=20
from last year. Carissa attends the University of Central Florida in Orland=
o=20
where she is in the honors program. The straight "A" student thanked Rotary=
for=20
supporting her education.
Congratulations to Andy Hall who is celebrating his 50th year in Rotary!
Bill Adams introduced our program, the Stine family, who spoke on the=20
benefits of yoga. At this time of the year people make two New Year=E2=80=
=99s Resolutions --=20
to eat less and exercise more. Scientific research and many different=20
studies have concluded that yoga is not only a wonderful form of exercise bu=
t a=20
valid means of treatment for common ailments and chronic conditions. One of=
the=20
beauties of this form of exercise is that no equipment is required and anyon=
e=20
can do it. Jo Stine and her daughter, Coton, operate a yoga studio in the=20
Pineapple Grove area in Delray Beach. They offer classes for all levels of=20=
yoga=20
and also have breathing and meditation classes. After Jo introduced the bas=
ics=20
of yoga, Coton led some group participation exercises. It was a great=20
opportunity for all of us to "kick out the kinks!" Thanks to the Stine fami=
ly for an=20
interesting program!=20
Pat Archer held the winning ticket for the Green Hat.
Next week=E2=80=99s program: Tony Allerton on Crossroads.
Best wishes to all for a safe and happy new year!
