        ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
January 13, 2004

I would like to take a moment to thank Nancy King for all the fine work she
has been doing on The Ramblings, when I am unable to attend. She and I have
decided to make it a "shared" task. I certainly want to thank her for agreeing
to do this.

As this new year gets under way, we continue to have fine leadership.
President-elect Bill Adams conducted a fine meeting. Jim Pignato gave the
invocation; Steve Rich did a fine job leading the singing.

Harvey Brown greeted about eight visiting Rotarians, from all "frozen parts"
of the North. Bill Arnst presented Keith Stanton, of Brighton, Ontario with
our banner.

Fred Bonardi presented our stock report. He informed us that Greenspan was
speaking today, putting the market "in motion."

Sergeant at Arms Tony Allerton, gathered in a total of $77.00, from a variety
of categories. Lyn Huckle donated $10.00 of this, commenting that next week
was her birthday, therefore, the donations would exceed $100.00.

Bill Adams had the pleasure of presenting our Student of The Month, Joseph C.
Bean, Jr., a senior at Atlantic High School. I am informed that Joseph C.
Bean, Sr., is their head football coach. This fine young man hopes to earn a
degree in Criminal Justice, or in Education. He is quoted: "I want to work
diligently to further my education so I can give back and help others." He hopes
to attend either Bethune-Cookman, or FA&M. He also works as a student clerk
in the Utilities Department of City of Boynton Beach. His hobby is computers.

Our Teacher of The Month is Cheryl Lee-Bennett, fourth time winner of this
award, from our club. Quite obviously, this teacher is doing something right w
ith all these students. She is the winner of many other awards also. She
informed us that she intends to "dedicate a wall" to all these honors.

Our guest speaker today was Kurt Godfrey, owner of Bob's Printing. Kurt is
one of our newest members, and has already taken a very active part in our
club.

Kurt has quite a sense of humor. When he approached the podium to speak, of
course the microphone fell apart, as usual. He entertained with a little
"Irish Jig" while the mike was being put together again. He is from MO, where he
played football. He says his knees brought him to Florida. In 1970, when he
came here to play, he discovered his knees did not hurt when in this climate,
so he chose to stay! He has been married 25 years, has two daughters, Kimberly
and Terra. He owned a lawn service/nursery in this area for eighteen years,
buying and selling it twice. He went to work at Bob's Printing, where the
opportunity arose to purchase it. He tells us his company is a full-service
printing, for all needs. Kurt, it was a pleasure to have you speak to the club,
and wish you continued success in your business as well as a Rotarian.

The Nominating Committee, chaired by Dave O'Connell; consisting of Nancy
Owens, Mark Denkler and Bill Arnst presented our slate of officers for the
upcoming year. They are:

procuring these officers. A motion was made by Tony Allerton, and seconded by Egon
Kurz, to accept this slate of officers.

Next Week: Our guest speaker will be none other than Reverend Andy Hall. His
topic is: "The Origin of Phrases We Use Everyday." This should be fun-filled
and informative.
