ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
March 9, 2004

While many of you slept, or were having that first cup of Java this a. m,
your Rotary Club of Delray Beach was holding its monthly board meeting. President
Mark Denkler headed up this meeting.

We are looking for a storage unit to store supplies from our club. As of
now, they are scattered around. We need one central location. This includes
supplies we use at The Delray Affair. If you know of anyone, or any place we
might use, please contact Mark Denkler.

Steve Bates reminded us of our sponsorship of a little league team. In the
near future, we plan to attend one of their games, as a group. Of course, you
may attend any of their games as individuals. Please see Steve for more
information.

At this meeting, Leo Phillips reminded us that there are still a few members
that have not contributed their share for Polio Plus. Shame on you! We are
so close to stamping out this dreaded disease!

Our noon meeting was also presided over by President Mark Denkler, who is
"putting in a lot of Rotary time." We had a full house again today. Bill Adams
gave the invocation (he sure wears a lot of hats, other than "Fire Marshall
Bill"). Bill, we thank you for all your time spent on Rotary. We must not
forget all the time Charlotte (his wife) puts into Rotary through their
"parenting" of our exchange student.

Jimmy Weatherspoon even led his own "Happy Birthday" song today, as Bruce
Williams accompanied. Happy, Happy to you Jimmy. Art and Fatima NeJame are
celebrating 32 years of marital bliss; Happy Anniversary to both of you.

Harvey Brown read a long list of visiting Rotarians. We had so many new
ones, we gave away two banners today. Hack Allen presented a banner to Jeff
Donahue of NJ; Bruce Wenzel presented Dr. Allen Miller of PA, with a banner. John
Arnold was so pleased to have his son visiting today, he gave $10.00 in his
behalf. Arthur Reef had as his guests, Don Learch and his daughter, Marilyn.

PAINT UP DELRAY: MARCH 27, 7:00, A.M. TO NOON. Dave O'Connell needs more
names on the sign up sheet. Come on, let's make Delray beautiful and make some
deserving family happy!

DIGITAL CAMERA WORKSHOP: APRIL 3, 9:00, A.M. TO 1:00 P.M. PALM BEACH
PHOTOGRAPHIC CENTRE. This workshop is presented and sponsored by Palm Beach Photo
Centre. The price is only $50.00. All proceeds benefit Rotary Fund of Delray
Beach. Fatima NeJame is donating her time for this. This is open to the
public, but has limited seating. Please respond ASAP to Georgina Kerr-Jarrett,
276-1640. Tickets also sold at Vince Canning Shoes, 335 E. Atlantic Avenue. This
should be a very informative workshop. (Some of you out there cannot even
set the clock on your VCR, so what makes you think digital photography is so
easy?)

Candace Etzler, Sergeant at Arms, collected a whopping $222.00 today. Mert
Anderson donated $80.00 to Rotary on behalf of our "computer wizard" Jim
Blocker. Jim is quite a genius when it comes to "sick computers." I should know, he
has resurrected mine a few times.

Please note: Bingo Party has been postponed to May 6, or 13. (Exact date
must be worked out with Ellie's Catering Dept.) This morning, the board of
directors decided we needed a fundraiser in May. We have so many events happening
in March and April, it was unanimously voted to happen in May. By that time,
each member will have the opportunity to participate in some way, to make this
event successful!

I have been asked to remind you that our meetings start at 12:15 p.m. and
last until 1:15 p. m. Please be reminded of this. (We are aware that some of
you must be at work by 1:00 p. m; most of you don't, however.) The diner charges
our club by the amount of dinner plates we use each week. If you purchase
only soup and salad, please refrain from using the dinner plates for a "tray."

Assistant Governor Emmett Gumm had the pleasure of inducting another new
member into our club today. He is Michael Caldwell, sponsored by Dave O'Connell.
Mr. Caldwell is in banking. He is not new to Rotary; he is a former member
in Coral Springs.

Bill Adams introduced our guest speaker, Jacqueline Muniz, Public Information
Specialist with Children's Services. In 1986, a referendum was passed to
include in our property taxes, money to fund this service. There are 183
programs in Palm Beach County funded through this program. Ladies and gentlemen,
this is your tax dollars at work; helping to make a better life for those out
there who are in need.  Some of the programs are Early Intervention/Prevention;
Women at Risk (through pregnancy); Foster Care, School Readiness (teaching the
children to read); Life Skills, etc. For more information:

Next week: Our guest speaker will be: Don Learch, topic: Energy!
