ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
April 13, 2004

A hearty group of Rotarians started their day at 7:30 a.m. with a Board of
Directors/Members Meeting; led by President Mark Denkler, doing a fine job. Our
special guest was Betsy Owen, President of Sunrise Rotary Club of Delray
Beach. Much was accomplished, as usual. The main topic of discussion was the
Delray Affair, this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I certainly hope each
member of our club will take time to go down and help our club to raise money
for our scholarship fund, even if you have only a few minutes, or pocket change
to buy a hot dog. Steve Bates is heading up this project and doing a fine job.

President-elect Bill Adams did a fine job conducting our weekly noon meeting,
in the absence of our president. (I heard he was at a shoe sale.) Dave
O'Connor gave a beautiful invocation. Wally Doud, wearing his usual happy face,
led the singing, accompanied by the beautiful music of Bruce Williams.

Cliff Ripley will be presenting the Palm Beach Scholastic Awards this
Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at The Breakers. Our club supports this awards dinner each
year, as well as Mr. Ripley being a member of our club.

Marilyn Ochs informs us of the RYLA Seminar this weekend; stating our
sponsored students are very excited; so is Marilyn. Marilyn also noted that we have
another student from Brazil that's interested in being an exchange student for
the coming year. Her sister is in Boca Raton, as an exchange student this
year. This young lady has great credentials. Her parents are a dentist and an
endocrinologist. She will be a junior this coming year. If you, or someone
you know, would like to participate in this program, please let our club know
right away. Bill and Charlotte Adams have hosted an exchange student this year
for our club. They have been doing a fine job. If you would like to take
this young lady to dinner, or entertain her, please contact Bill and Charlotte.

Fred Bonardi, wearing two hats again, did a better job with the Sergeant at
Arms report than with the stock market, since the market was down today. He
did a great job of collecting $118.00, from a rather small group. Bill Arnst
donated $50.00 for his birthday; thanks Bill for your generosity. John Arnold
had such a great time with his grandchildren, hiding Easter eggs, that he
donated $10.00 to the club today.

Harvey Brown greeted only two visiting Rotarians, making his job easy. I
learned that Stormi Norem's daughter, Kari Norem-Hohner, who was visiting with
him today, became a member of the Boynton-Lantana Rotary Club last week.
Congratulations, Kari!

Our club is looking for an executive secretary; pay is $400.00 monthly. If
you, or anyone you know is interested in this position, please let Mark Denkler
know immediately!

BINGO PARTY! MAY 6, 2004, ELLIE'S FLAMINGO ROOM, 6:00 P.M. Please mark your
calendar; this is our second biggest fundraiser for our club. We will be
calling on each of you for participation!

Our guest speaker today was Nancy Distler, Acupuncture Physician. She has
been an Acupuncturist and Herbalist for five years; don't let her youthful
appearance confuse you with her experience. She is a graduate of Atlantic Institute
of Oriental medicine with a Master's of Science Degree in Oriental Medicine.
She also works with Herbology; Moxibustion (heat therapy); Electro
Stimulation; Gusha (Scrapping Process); Tui Na (Chinese Massage), and Nutrition. She
gave us a long list of common conditions she treats. Some of it sounds very
surprising, but is highly recommended over surgery and heavy medications. If you
have any of the symptoms listed on her handout, it surely is a recommended
alternative. (No, she does not have "do it yourself" at home kits; that's called
body piercing.) Upon interviewing this vivacious young lady, I realized how
dedicated she is to her profession. For more information: (561) 447-6500.

Next Week: Our speaker will be Susie DeBusk; her topic is: Journeys in
Africa."
