ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
July 6, 2004

While President Bill Adams and The Adams Family are enjoying New York, during
the July 4th holidays, President-elect Leo Phillips presided over our
meeting, doing an excellent job. Bill and Charlotte took our foreign exchange
students, Letitia and Priscilla to New York this week. We will want to hear all
about it upon their return.

Hack Allen gave the invocation. Steve Rich led the singing, sounding like
the "Local Bar Singers, at closing time." Bruce Williams as always, was in
perfect tune on piano. Boy, do we ever appreciate Bruce not going away this
summer.

Dave and Andrea Harden are celebrating their anniversary. He generously
donated $32.00 to our club. Also, Gerry and Ann Meeks are celebrating their
anniversary. Gerry donated $14.00 today. To all of you, we wish you the very
best. Bill Arnst paid for an unclaimed banner.

Bruce Wenzel had no visiting Rotarians to welcome, but did welcome Rex
Taylor, Nancy King's guest; and Roger Richardson's wife Debra.

Georgina Kerr-Jarrett gave the stock market report. She noted that oil
prices are going up, therefore, the market is down today. Her quote: "The market
has had a rough and tumble year; flat. We are hoping for a summer rally."

Fred Bonardi, Sergeant at Arms, collected $120.00, on a hot day in Delray,
for our club. Kurt Godfrey donated $5.00, celebrating his daughter getting her
first "real" job. Lyn Huckle donated $5.00, wishing Fred Runkel good health.

Leo Phillips informed us that Rick Russell, our Immediate Past District
Governor, announced that our District was among the top 2% Rotary Clubs in the
world. That is quite an honor!

We wish to welcome back Pat Archer. She recently had foot surgery. Next
week she will be dancing, right Pat?

Today, we were quite pleased to have as our guest speaker, none other than
our own Vice-president, Georgina Kerr-Jarrett. She joined our Rotary Club in
1999, when she took over the management of Merrill Lynch, Delray Office. She is
a Senior Financial Advisor and has been in the Financial Services field since
1990.

Georgina was born in New York, but grew up in London. (No one would question
that, Georgina.) She was educated in Switzerland, France, London and USA.
She is the proud mother of two grown sons.

Georgina had the pleasure of representing our club at the Rotary
International Convention in Osaka, Japan this year. She has always loved the Japanese
Culture. She did quite a bit of sight-seeing, and really taking in the culture.
She enjoyed their customs and respect for their religions. She admitted
there was quite a language barrier, however. Since the menus were in Japanese,
she found pictures of the food on the front of the restaurant, and took the wait
staff out to the street and pointed at the food. It worked; she got fed!

She was quite enthralled at the convention. There were 47,000 Rotarians,
from over 31,000 clubs, from more than 100 countries represented. Rotary unites
countries and people all over the world; we share a common bond of service
above self!

She came home refreshed, and proud to be a Rotarian; to be a member of Delray
Beach Rotary Club. Georgina, we know you represented our club well, and we
are proud to have you as a member of our club.

Next week: Our speaker will be Rich Fleming, Director of Special Olympics, in
this area. Accompanying him will be one of the athletes. This should be
quite an interesting program.
