ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

July 27, 2004

President Bill Adams is in full swing as president, leading another
spectacular meeting. Candace Etzler gave the invocation. Steve Rich led the singing
acappella. (Bruce Williams, your timing was off; we had our District Governor
as our guest speaker; we wanted to show her how classy you make our club each
week. I guess you deserve vacation, however.)

We sang Happy Anniversary to Roy Simon, who gave $10.00 for the occasion. We
wish you the best.

Georgina Kerr-Jarrett gave the stock report. She noted that the market was up
for the day, but down for the year. She is an "eternal optimist."

Sergeant at Arms Tony Allerton gathered in a total of $84.00 for the day,
including $5.00 from Marilyn Ochs for the banner. Barnie Shuhi is back,
contributing $5.00. We also had a couple of celebrities, with their pictures in the
newspaper; John Callahan and Shirley Clark. (Being a celebrity is costly.)

President Adams made a couple of announcements: DUES are due! ($110.00) He
recognized our new Club Administrative Secretary, Sally Dye. Also, the
District Conference Cruise, in October, still has a few vacancies. See him for
detailed information.

One more announcement: Whether you plan to eat lunch or not, please check in
with Sally, at the front table. The diner does a head count, as well as
counting plates used. This is Frank's responsibility to collect for the meals.
Your attendance is also logged in at that table.

We were very pleased to have as our guest speaker, our current District
Governor, Jean Starkey. Jean is a dynamic lady and speaker; a true Rotarian.

Jean is a native of Merritt Island, Florida, where her family was in the
citrus industry. Fulfilling a childhood dream of "seeing the world," she has
lived in Mexico, France, Belgium, Germany and South Africa. She is fluent in the
languages of these countries.

In 1973, Jean was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar for a year of graduate study
in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ms. Starkey is the owner-manager of a Top Performing Real Estate Company.
She is the proud mother of two daughters, ages 19 and 23. Her hobbies include
travel, gourmet cooking, music, theater, weightlifting and yoga. She is also
very active in her church.

Jean is a member of Rotary's Bequest Society, a Paul Harris Fellow and Double
Sustaining Member. She joined Rotary in 1996, and is very proud to serve as
a District Governor during Rotary's Centennial year.

She is getting this year off with a bang. She has great plans for District
6930, and is going to help make Rotary well know, from Titusville to Boca Raton
this year, with help from each of us.

Ms. Starkey, it is a pleasure to meet you and have you serve as our District
Governor.

Next week: Our guest speaker will be Peter Castello, of Rotary Suntree, FL.
He is Youth Exchange Officer for District 6930. He is also Co-Rotarian of
the Year, along with Co-Rotarian Harry Rhame.

I received a note from Dr. Gay Vela. She is still with her daughter, who
has had two major surgeries.  At this point, there are some complications;
please continue to keep both of them in your prayers. She noted that she misses
her "Rotary Family."
