        ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

October 5, 2004

After so many traumatic interruptions to our wonderful lifestyle in South
Florida, let's pray that things are getting back to normal for all of us.

Our attendance for today's meeting was very good. President Bill Adams, in
his usual fine manner, led the meeting. Jim Pignato gave the invocation.
Jimmy Weatherspoon (without his glasses) led us in two of our favorite songs. We
were so glad to have Bruce Williams back with us, making magic on the ivories.

We sang Happy Birthday to Fred Bonardi, and Happy (first) Anniversary to
Roger and Debora Richardson. We wish you the very best.

Bruce Wenzel, our Official Greeter, welcomed visiting Rotarians Rex Taylor,
Vero Beach and Dorian Trauger, Boynton-Lantana Club. Dorian was here to
promote her club's upcoming Rotary Club of Boynton Beach-Lantana's Third Annual
Invitational Golf Tournament, Friday, October 15, 2004, Cypress Creek Country
Club. For more information, call: Roger Dunson 734-5054.

We had make ups by Bill Talen, Lyn Huckle and Mert Anderson. Robert Erickson
had Pat Owen as his guest today.

Fred Bonardi told us the stock market is quiet today. At noon, the DOW was
down 14 points; the NASDAQ up 3 points; the S&P down 1 point.

Fred Bonardi, as Sergeant at Arms, collected a total of $257.00. He gave
$44.00 for his birthday. Rev. Roger Richardson gave $11.00 for his anniversary.

Our day was filled with mixed emotions; Wally Doud was in attendance; just to
bid us farewell. It was sad to see one of our true, Service Above Self
members, saying good-bye. He and Jean are moving to Vero Beach. Wally has been
such a true Rotarian, and so well loved by all. We have always looked forward
to his return to our midst each season. Maybe we can persuade him to pay us an
occasional visit. Wally, you will be missed!!

Georgina Kerr-Jarrett announced to all that Merrill-Lynch is definitely not
leaving Delray Beach. Her office incurred extensive damage during the
hurricanes. They are temporarily housed in Boca, but shall return, as soon as repairs
are done.

Dave Armstrong gave us an update report on Fred Runkle. Fred has had
extensive health problems, recently. He is in Bethesda Hospital, as of now. I am
sure he would appreciate a visit. Let's keep Fred in our prayers. Also, let's
keep Egon Kurz in our prayers at this time. He recently had a slight
"malfunction."

Sunday, October 31, 2004; Please put this date on your calendar; District
Rotary Picnic, at Morakami Park. Let's try to promote a good attendance from our
club. More details at next week's meeting.

Thursday, December 2, 2004; Our club's Holiday Party. It will be held at
Delray Beach Golf Club, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Leo Phillips introduced our guest speaker today, W. Rod Faulds, Director of
University Galleries, Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, School of
Arts, Florida Atlantic University. Since 1980, Faulds has worked as an art
museum administrator, curator, and an exhibition and graphic designer. He
holds many credentials in this field.

Faulds has developed an innovative Museum Education program at FAU that
features university students serving as guides for middle school and high school
aged children. He has also encouraged younger curators, by inviting them to
organize exhibitions for the University Galleries. He showed us many very
interesting exhibits, being featured at FAU.

Next Week: Finally, we will get to hear Bill Wheelock, President of World
Affairs Council, of Palm Beaches.

Our Board Meeting will be held next Tuesday morning, October 12, 7:30, a.m.,
Ellie's Diner, Marilyn Room. All members are invited to attend.
