ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

October 19, 2004

We had a "top notch" meeting today. Bruce Williams was back, playing some
terrific show tunes; Jimmy Weatherspoon sounded very good, leading the singing;
Harvey Brown gave a short and sweet invocation. Most of all, our president,
Bill Adams, led another well run meeting.

It is with regret that I tell you, we have lost another of our terrific
members; Fred Runkel has passed away. Our sympathy goes out to his wife, Dorothy,
and family.

We had one birthday; Hack Allen, who donated $20.00. We also had two
anniversaries; Dave and Nancy O'Connell. Dave donated $51.00 for this happy
occasion. Sam Altdoerffer and his wife are celebrating 55 years of marriage; he
donated $55.00. We thank each of you for your generosity, and wish you many more
happy years.

Harvey Brown welcomed our visiting Rotarians and guests. Among them was Dr.
Oswald Wertz, of Germany; Art Kramer and Pat Owens.

Fred Bonardi "danced" around the stock market report. Yes, the DOW was up 16
points, at the time of his report.

Fred also served as Sergeant at Arms, reporting a whopping $209.00 collected
today. Bill Scottie gave $15.00, and John Arnold gave $20.00; both "glad to
be back with us." John, a former "snowbird," has now turned permanent resident.
John, we will be looking forward to seeing you weekly.

Leo Phillips has asked me to mention that Rotary International has asked each
member to donate $100.00 this year to the Rotary Foundation. November is
Rotary Foundation Month.

Leo Phillips introduced our guest speaker today. She is Kipper Lance,
Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Norton Museum of Art. She is
responsible for developing and distributing the image of the Norton through
public relations, advertising and marketing.

Kipper is a graduate of Pine Manor College; also a recipient of the Eunice
Kennedy Shriver Award, through working with the Special Olympics. She is also a
fellow Rotarian, being a member of the Palm Beach Club.

The Norton Museum of Art was founded in 1941 by Ralph and Elizabeth Norton.
They struck a deal with the city of West Palm Beach, to build a school, if
West Palm Beach would pave the roads leading there. The facility has grown by
leaps and bounds. The building itself is a work of art, with three floors for
exhibition. It also houses a cafe, museum store, and rents gathering spaces
for social and corporate events.

An interesting exhibition slated for February through May 1, will be Spain in
the Age of Exploration, 1492-1819, including Columbus' Diary. This will be
the first time this exhibition has ever traveled out of Spain.

Becoming a member of Norton Museum of Art offers many perks. Among them,
free admission for members for most exhibitions. For further details, call:
561-659-6786.

Next week, we will hear Poppi Mercier, Director of Boca Children's Museum.
Also, Eric Meyer will be installed as a new member, with Emmett Gumm doing
the honors (long version).
