ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
November 9, 2004
Many of us started our day attending the monthly Board of Directors Meeting.
Much was accomplished, and will be handed down to the club by President
Bill Adams, and various committees.
At 11:30 a. m. we gathered at Old School Square to honor our Service Above
Self Award recipient, Elizabeth (Libby) Wesley. Four of our former
recipients, or family representatives, were present. The day was beautiful; sunny, with
a light breeze. Bill Adams and Ernie Simon conducted the ceremony. Rev.
Jackson (brother of recipient) gave the invocation. We then moved to the
nostalgic gym for a delicious luncheon, catered by Ellie's, of course.
In the weeks prior to this ceremony, we have published many of Mrs. Wesley's
accomplishments and attributes, but today, she certainly touched our lives
with her warm, sincere love of life and of Delray Beach. She was very
gracious and humble, accepting this award, even though many previous awards have
been bestowed upon her. She ended her acceptance speech with her rendition of
Amazing Grace. If you left this ceremony without being moved by her love, and
sincerity, you must be emotionally dead!
It is no wonder Elizabeth (Libby) Wesley is known to all, as The Mother of
Delray. Our thanks to Ernie Simon and his committee, Jim Pignato and Nancy
Owens, for another great choice.
