ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
December 7, 2004
Remember Pearl Harbor! Our country has come a long way since that fateful
day.
President Bill Adams presided over our meeting; Tom Cook did "double-duty,"
giving a lovely invocation and also leading our singing.
We sang Happy Birthday to Jess Sowards and our guest speaker, Pat McMillan.
Jess, we wish you the best; also, Ms. McMillan.
We are pleased to see Rev. Andy Hall back with us for the season. We also
had three other visiting Rotarians. We had many make ups, keeping our
attendance among the top clubs.
Fred Bonardi gave the stock report, with a smile on his face. Stocks were
up!
This is the second publication for membership for Inga Talmon and Patricia
Owens.
We had a total of $149.00 collected today. Jess Sowards donated $44.00 of
this amount for his birthday (such a baby).
It was reported that we cleared a total of $2,500.00 at the silent auction,
held at our Holiday Party. For those of you who attended, I hope you had as
much fun as I did. For those of you that did not attend; well, you missed a
terrific party! It was fun to see so many of our other fellow Rotarians from
the Sunrise Rotary Club and Boynton-Lantana Club. It's wonderful to be in a
group of same-minded souls, with the same ideals of helping others. That
makes us all winners!
President Adams read a thank you letter from our recent Teacher of the
Month, Miriam Sears. It is no wonder why she was the choice.
Our guest speaker today was nationally known Author/Designer Patricia Hart
McMillan. Ms. McMillan is the author of seven decorating books, including
"Home Decorating for Dummies." She is a frequent guest of HGTV; also the
Discovery Channel. She told us that all of us are designers; beauty inspires our
spirit; that civilization demands beauty. She complimented Delray Beach on
our design beauty. I must agree with this.
Next week: Our speaker will be Dr. Robert Watson, (Dr. Watson?) Political
Scientist, FAU. He certainly has a colorful background. This should be an
interesting mixture of his career.
Bill Arnst has informed me that we have 6-8 more live wreaths available.
The price is $25.00. They are so fragrant, that people comment on their
wonderful fragrance. Please call Bill regarding the wreaths: 278-3171.
