ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
December 21, 2004
Today, everyone was in a "holiday mood," and looking very festive. The
meeting was very upbeat. Gerry Meeks gave a lovely invocation; Jimmy
Weatherspoon was in the holiday mood, leading us in old favorites. Bruce Williams, in
his usual manner, entertained us with lovely holiday music. Bruce, each week,
you are honored, after you leave.
We sang Happy Birthday to Bill Talen, who donated $80.00 for his birthday.
We know that's no indication of his age! (Couldn't be.)
We had six visiting Rotarians, including our Assistant District Governor,
Betsy Owens, in her lovely "Santa's Helper" red outfit. She presented "little
Bill" a special gift of chocolates. Jimmy Weatherspoon had his brother,
Eugene visiting with him for the holidays.
Fred Bonardi gave the stock report; it was up; he was very excited. He then
changed hats to give us the Sergeant at Arms report. He had collected
$180.00; then Betsy Owens donated another $20.00 to make it even $200.00.
President Adams invited all members to attend our Executive Board Meetings
every second Tuesday morning, 7:30 a.m. at Ellie's Marilyn Room.
President Adams gave an insight on Rotary, and presented a slide show of
some of the events he has been involved with, thus far this year, including the
District Conference, aboard the Sovereign of the Seas. He has certainly been
quite busy, being a dedicated president of our club. My hat goes off to him
for a fine job. He also told us that our club has donated a total of
$111.00 toward the Rotary Float, "Rotary Family Tree," to be in the Rose Bowl
Parade. We will all be looking for it. Bill, thanks for a good presentation.
Assistant Governor Betsy Owens asked for Paul Harris Fellows to stand. I
was quite impressed that most of our club stood. As of this writing, Bill
Talen is a four time Paul Harris Fellow; he just donated another $1,000.00; his
fourth. Bill, we, as Rotarians, thank you for your generosity.
I have been asked to announce that on January 15, 2005, 6:00 p.m., The
Delray Beach Playhouse/Ernest G. Simon Scholarship Fund, will present Boom! You're
Dead! This will be held at Ellie's Flamingo Room. It sounds like a riot.
All proceeds will benefit a youth or adult interested in performing arts.
For more information, contact Ernie Simon, or The Delray Beach Playhouse.
More information next week.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!
