ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

March 1, 2005

Today was again a very well attended meeting. We had about 12 visiting
Rotarians, welcomed by Bruce Wenzel. Among them was Steve Laine, former District
Governor and his wife, Iris. Joyce Lunsford read a "Rotary Prayer" written
by Mr. Laine. It was very impressive. President Bill Adams presided over
the meeting. Jimmy Weatherspoon led us in a couple of old favorites. As
always, Bruce Williams had all of us "tapping our toes" to his rendition of some
of the old favorites. Bruce, we love you and your music.

Georgina Kerr-Jarrett gave the stock market report, stating the Dow was up
50 points; the S&P up 5 points and the NASDAQ up 11 points. That sounds like
a good day to me.

Tony Allerton, Sergeant at Arms, collected $85.00 today, with most of it
being contributed on behalf of Frank (our dining room head waiter). Frank
recently suffered a heart attack, while on the job. He seems to be in good
spirits, however, looking very healthy. Lew Currier paid for a banner that he was
unable to give away.

President Bill Adams read the proclamation recently presented to our Rotary
Club and the Sunrise Rotary Club, on behalf of the City of Delray Beach.
This was presented at a recent City Council meeting and read by Mayor Jeff
Perlman.

Dave O'Connell is still looking for two good (or even bad) painters to help
with the "Paint Up Delray" project. The city selects houses (six this year)
in neighborhoods throughout the city, and local service clubs and businesses
participate in painting them for the owner.

DUES ARE DUE!

Steve Bates had the pleasure of introducing our guest speaker today, Mr.
Terry Zanzucchi. He is the President of Delray Beach National Little League.
He has been a coach for five years, and a board member for three. He says he
has Mickey Manning to thank for his involvement.

Mr. Zanzucchi is a native of Flagstaff, AZ. After graduating from college
at Arizona State, he moved to Florida. He is currently employed with ILS
Technologies of Boca Raton. That's where he gets paid; the rest of his long days
is involved with kids; teaching them to play baseball. Both his children
are in the Little League Program.

Our Rotary Club has been a sponsor of Delray Beach National Little League
since 1953. We are the longest time sponsor of the League. This international
program began in 1938. Currently there are 7,100 programs in 65 countries.
Delray Beach Little League has 400 kids, and 33 teams at this time. These
coaches and all their helpers are volunteer workers. The only paid people are
the umpires. (I guess this is the only safe way to call a game.)

Some evening, travel to Miller Park and watch these kids playing their
hearts out. Access to this park is off Linton Boulevard, just west of Dixie
Highway; follow the signs. It will do you good to see the joy our sponsorship can
give a kid. You will realize it is a good investment in their future. For
more details, contact Steve Bates, or Mickey Manning.

Next week our speaker will be Mr. Lloyd Weil, speaking first hand, on organ
transplants.

Thought:
The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds and words
return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy!
(Florence Shinn)
