ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
March 8, 2005
At 7:30 a.m. today, our Board of Directors met at Ellie's Marilyn Room. If
you really want to know how hard this board works, attend one of these
meetings; you will be impressed. It is certainly a good leadership team.
At noon, President Bill Adams was again there, "heading up the show." Bill
does such a great job; I would like to take a moment to commend him on his
efforts.
Candace Etzler gave the invocation; Sam Altdoerffer lead us in song, doing a
splendid job, along with his accompanist, Bruce Williams.
Today, President Bill Adams was very generous; he donated $100.00, to
celebrate his birthday and his wedding anniversary. It was hard to figure out if
he's been married a long time, or if he's getting old! Congratulations on
both; may you live long, and very happily, with Charlotte.
Bruce Wenzel greeted about thirteen visiting Rotarians, including three from
Delray Beach Sunrise Rotary Club. Dario Ayala, of that club, told us of the
reading program at Plumosa School, and that they need volunteers. He also
informed us of their upcoming "Duck Derby" on November 19. This is a great
club; if you haven't done a make up there, do so the next time.
Fred Bonardi presented our banner to Bill Crotty, of Coldwater, MI. (I bet
the water is really cold there at this time.) Rev. Andy Hall had as his
guest, Rev. Van Capps. Arthur Reef had Don Lerch as his guest.
Fred Bonardi gave a "quiet stock report." As Sergeant at Arms, he collected
a total of $152.00.
Announcements:
The Annual Bingo Fundraiser will be on Thursday, May 5, Ellie's Flamingo
Room. Please put this on your calendar now. This is a longtime tradition of
this club; let's all attend. Shirley Clark has already procured $500.00
sponsorship from her employer, Fidelity Federal Bank.
Our Centennial Celebration has been rescheduled for November 5.
Leo Phillips introduced our speaker, Mr. Lloyd Weill. Many of you remember
Mr. Weill, as a former speaker. His speech was on the Importance of Organ
Donation. Mr. Weill, himself, is a kidney recipient, as of nine years ago. At
that time, he received the kidney of a seventeen year old female. He is
doing great, and a real advocate of the cause.
He informed us that the Cleveland Clinic of Ft. Lauderdale is closing its
doors, due to the fact there aren't enough donors. Yet, there are 94,225
people waiting for organ transplants; 1,300 of them are children. He also
informed us, not to think we are "too old" to donate. He told us of a 90's plus
donor.
If you wish to be a donor, please inform your closest family members; they
are the ones to be aware of this. He also has donor cards available. Putting
it on your driver's license is great, but what if you meet death away from
your car?
Mr. Weill ended with: "Don't take your organs to Heaven; Heaven knows we
need them here."
You may contact Mr. Weill for more information at: 561-733-8327.
Next Week: Our speaker is Lisa Johnson, Marketing, Girl Scouts of America.
