ROTARY RAMBLINGS

DELRAY BEACH ROTARY CLUB

April 28, 2005

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! THE ROTARY BINGO PARTY HAS BEEN POSTPONED! THERE
WILL NOT BE A PARTY, AS PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED FOR MAY 5!

The newsletter is back, after a week of "vacation." President Bill Adams
presided over today's meeting. Dave Harden gave the invocation. Sam
Altdoeffer, with his great singing voice, led the singing. He tried out a new "Rotary
Song" with us. He is such a brave soul. Bruce Williams, as always,
entertained us royally. Bill Arnst, celebrating his birthday, generously donated
$70.00. Happy Birthday, Bill! Make ups were done by Lyn Huckle and Dave
Harden. We thank both of you for your efforts.

Bruce Wenzel welcomed our visiting Rotarians, which amounted to about four.
Con Fecher had the pleasure of giving our banner to a new visiting Rotarian.
Dr. Don Thorpe, a former member and former president, gave us his latest
joke; what a character.

Fred Bonardi gave us the stock market report. For the year, the DOW is down
5%; the NASDAQ down 10%; the S&P down 4%. We sure need an improvement.

We wish to congratulate the Richardson Family. Rev. Roger Richardson is now
the proud father of a baby girl, Sarah.

Steve Bates informed us that our Rotary sponsored Little League team is
ahead in playoffs of one and one half games. Let's all root for our team!

Again, we would like to thank Cliff Ripley for making it possible to give a
one thousand dollar Scholastic Scholarship to a deserving young man in the
name of Rotary Club of Delray Beach. Mr. Ripley, your generosity and hard work
is very commendable.

Dave Armstrong wishes to thank all of you who generously bought and shared
their "left over" hot dogs from the Delray Affair, with the children of CCCC.
By the way, they need your help all year long.

Our guest speakers today were our RYLA students that attended the recent
RYLA Convention. They were Angelo Ierace and Altanese Jean-Louis. They were
accompanied by Jean Landaker, the IB Counselor at Atlantic High School. Angelo
was sponsored by our club, and Altanese was sponsored by the Sunrise Rotary
Club. Both students seemed to really enjoy the whole event, and graciously
thanked us for choosing them to attend the convention.

The Green Hat is now worth $300.00, since Leo Phillips failed to pick the
Ace; the odds get better each week!

AGAIN! BINGO PARTY, SCHEDULED FOR MAY 5, HAS BEEN POSTPONED. UPDATE WILL
BE ANNOUNCED LATER.

Next week: May 3: Dr. Robert Zoeller, Professor at FAU. Subject: "Staying
Fit." (A lesson for all of us!)
