ROTARY RAMBLINGS

 ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

June 21, 2005

President-elect Leo Phillips led our meeting today; next time, he will
officially be President Leo Phillips, as next week will be our Installation of
Officers. (Let's all try to be in attendance.) President Bill and Charlotte
Adams are attending the Rotary Centennial Convention in Chicago this week.
They will have some great stories to share with us, upon their return.

Hack Allen gave the invocation. Jimmy Weatherspoon led us in singing. We
wish Jimmy and Marian the best, on their thirty-sixth anniversary; he also
donated $15.00 to the club. As always, Bruce Williams livened up the meeting
with his lovely musical renditions.

Bruce Wenzel welcomed the two "regular," visiting Rotarians, Rex Taylor and
Jeffrey Dennis. He also welcomed the two "soon to be members," (July 5) Mimi
Hutchison and Harvey Brown, Jr. We are looking forward to having them as
members; great assets to our club. Ray Ripley had as his guest, Bill Morris, a
new firm partner. Shirley Clark paid for an "unclaimed" banner. Lou Cucci
did a make up.

Georgina Kerr-Jarrett gave a rather upbeat stock market report, since the
market was up today.

Sergeant at Arms Tony Allerton gathered in $120.00 today. Among the
donations was John Arnold's $20.00, for his sons' visit for Father's Day. Lyn
Huckle and Stormi Norem donated $10.00 each. Bill Scottie "paid us" to leave for
the summer. We thank each of you for your generosity. Remember, an
anonymous member has offered $1,000.00, if we match it, for the Rel Moorcroft
Scholarship Fund. Let's make this happen!

Leo Phillips introduced our guest speaker, Lori Durante, Executive
Director/Chief Curator/ and Founding Member of the Museum of Lifestyle and Fashion
History.

Lori has served our community in many ways. She is a member of the Board of
Trustees of the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. She serves as a
volunteer for events for the Delray Beach Sister Cities. She also has been the
Project Manager for the Delray Beach Cultural Loop, a 1.3 mile trail that
connects museums, historic sites, and culturally diverse neighborhoods in Delray
Beach.

Lori had as her guests, Nancy Boyle, a volunteer at the MLFH Museum, and her
niece Jennifer, a local jewelry designer.

In 1999, Lori partnered with Old School Square, to bring 40 Years of Barbie
Doll: In Celebration of Women's History Month. This exhibit ran from March
1999 to September 2000 at Cornell Museum; then it moved to the Delray Beach
Public Library. This is only one example of the many exhibits brought to our
community, through the efforts of Lori Durante, and Museum of Lifestyle and
Fashion History. The museum is currently located at 322 N. E. Second Avenue.
Like many other venues in our community, it will soon be moving to a new
facility.

MLFH also sponsors a narrated bus tour of "Historic Delray," every fourth
Saturday of each month. For more information: 561-243-2662, or
_www.mlfhmuseum.org_ (http://www.mlfhmuseum.org) .

Remember:  Next week is our installation of  officers; same time, same place;
be there!
