ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
June 28, 2005
Jim Pignato, our favorite emcee, and a member of our Rotary Club for
forty-six years, opened our meeting. He called on Dave O'Connell to give the
invocation.
Today began a new year in Rotary Club of Delray Beach. President Bill Adams
turned his gavel over to President-elect Leo Phillips. As one of his last
acts, President Adams paid tribute to those members who had worked closely
with him this year, either as officers, or committee heads. He presented each
one with a lovely potted Gloxinia plant; a hug (or handshake) and a big thank
you.
Ernie Simon read a proclamation, paying tribute to the efforts, achievements
and goals set by President Bill "Firefighter Hummingbird" (This handle came
from a story told by Bill about a hummingbird trying to put out a forest
fire, one drop of water at a time) Adams.
Today, we had visiting with us, Pat Phillips (Mrs. Leo), and his friends,
Mr. Heath Larry and Austin Lucas, long time Rotarians. We also were honored to
have our Assistant District Governor Betsy Owen in attendance for our
ceremony. Ray Ripley had his business partner Bill Morris, as his guest.
We had make ups done by Eric Meyer, Pat Archer and Sylvia Pecaro. Sergeant
at Arms Fred Bonardi gathered in $162.00 today. We had two anniversaries,
George Kientzy (and Mary), donating $26.00; also, Fred Bonardi (and Barbara)
with 19 years, and $19.00. We wish each of you a long, happy, healthy life
together.
Lynn Huckle donated $50.00 today, as a tribute to Bill and Charlotte Adams,
for their "true Rotarian" leadership, and participation in Rotary. Again, we
thank both of you for all you have done, and will continue to do.
It was announced that Dave Richards did five make ups in India. We are
really looking forward to hearing from Dave, to tell us about his experience in
charitable work in India. Hats off to Dave!
A moment of silence was offered in the loss of three of our outstanding
members this year; they are Ross Rife, Fred Runkel and Harvey Brown, Sr. On a
lighter note, next week, we will be inducting two new members: Harvey Brown,
Jr., and Mimi Hutchison.
Ernie Simon conducted the ceremony, inducting our new officers for
2005-2006. They are:

Kurt Godfrey, Secretary
Anne Bright, Assistant Secretary
