ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

August 9, 2005

At 7:30 a.m. today, your board of directors met, lead by President Leo
Phillips. All members are invited to attend these meetings. This is a good way
to really know how much work is put into the success of our club.

Yea! Bruce Williams is back! It was so nice to walk into the meeting,
being greeted by one of our newest members, Bill Morse, and hearing Bruce's
lovely music again.

President Leo Phillips lead the meeting, and Tony Allerton gave a lovely
"Rotary " inspired invocation. Steve Rich had an easy job of leading the
singing, offering some of his special renditions.

Birthdays being celebrated were John Callahan, donating $25.00, and Pat
Archer, donating $39.00 for the Miracle League, and $23.00 to the "Rel
Challenge." We wish you both a very happy birthday. Thanks for your generosity.

Bruce Wenzel, in his cordial way, welcomed visiting Rotarians Dorian
Trauger, Jeff Dennis and John Lenke. Gil Forbes presented our banner to Mr. Lenke,
who is from S. Hill, Virginia. Make ups were done by Candace Etzler and Bob
Erickson.

Fred Bonardi boasted about giving the stock report two weeks in a row, with
the market up! He did announce the exorbitant price of oil, at $63.60; as we
weep at the gas pump.

Fred Bonardi also served as Sergeant at Arms, collecting a whopping $272.00
today. Lyn Huckle donated $100.00 on behalf of the Miracle League.

Today, Susan Miller, Executive Director of Crossroads, was inducted into our
club. Tony Allerton was her proud sponsor. Already, she is helping put
together our participation in the upcoming golf tournament benefit. Welcome,
Susan; thanks for becoming another vibrant Rotarian.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
August 24, reception at Boca Resort for our new RI President, Carl-Wilhelm
Stenhammar. Reception at 6:00 p.m; dinner at 7:00. Tickets are $65.00. You
may e-mail _mmfattel@bellsouth.net_ (mailto:mmfattel@bellsouth.net) , or
Hirsch Architects, in Boca, for more info.

October 1, Breakers West Country Club; Seventh Annual Scholastic Achievement
Foundation of Palm Beach County Golf Tournament. They are looking for
foursomes, as well as sponsorships. As most of you know, our own member, Cliff
Ripley, implemented this wonderful foundation, some twenty-seven years ago.

President elect Dave Armstrong elaborated on this at today's meeting. He
explained how Mr. Ripley formed the Scholastic Achievement Foundation of Palm
Beach County; committed to recognizing excellence in public, private and
parochial education. Each year, the foundation hosts a dinner, honoring
outstanding scholastic achievements by graduating seniors. This is always held at the
prestigious Breakers Hotel, in Palm Beach. In addition, $1,000.00
scholarships are awarded to the most outstanding participants. All these funds are
raised by generous donations by businesses, foundations, civic groups and
individuals throughout Palm Beach County.

For participation, in any capacity, see Dave Armstrong, or fill out the
sponsors form and return to him.

November 5, our Centennial Project Event; to raise funds for scholarships
for the Beacon Center. Our committee is looking for sponsorships, and
participation.

December 1, Rotary Club Holiday Party, Delray Beach Golf Course. This will
be dinner, dancing, and silent auction. More information to follow.

"Rel Challenge" We have been challenged by an anonymous, generous donor to
raise $1,000.00 ASAP, for the Rel Moorcroft Scholarship Fund. When we meet
this challenge, the donor will also contribute $1,000.00. What a generous
challenge.

Tentatively, we have May 21, scheduled for a Digital Photography Class at
Palm Beach Photo Museum. This is taught through the generosity of Art and
Fatima NeJame. This will be open to the public. So inform all your friends that
they too can become experts in digital photography. More information to
follow.

Please put these important dates on your calendar. Also, any donations to
Miracle League, make the check out to Rotary Foundation; in the memo line,
specify "Miracle League."

Steve Bates informed us that our Rotary Club sponsored Little League Team,
made it all the way to the state playoffs. That sure makes us proud; hope to
get the coach as a speaker, soon.

Steve also introduced one of our current scholarship recipients, Shannon
Shoemaker, along with her mother, Sharon. Shannon told us she is attending PBCC
currently, but hopes to go to FAU, to study medicine. She thanked us for
giving her a scholarship.

Next week, our speaker will be Robert Marshall, one of the GSE Team that
visited Italy recently. This should be an interesting experience.
