Rotary Ramblings
August 16, 2005

President Leo Phillips was at the helm presiding over today=E2=80=99s meeti=
ng.  Ron=20
Backer led us in prayer and Jimmy Weatherspoon did his usual wonderful job=20
leading us in a rousing selection of our favorite songs. Celebrating an=20
anniversary today was Hack Allen and his bride of 58 years. We wish you ma=
ny happy=20
years together!=20

Our guests and visiting Rotarians were introduced by Gerry Meeks. Specia=
l=20
thanks to the eight Rotarians who made up at other clubs, including Stormi=20
Norem who visited a Rotary Club in Beijing, China.

The pressure was on for Fred Bonardi=E2=80=99s stock market report since he=
 has had=20
two winning weeks. Sadly, his winning streak came to an end because the=20
market was down by 84 points. Fred noted that it has been a seesaw year --=
 the=20
numbers have been flat and not much money is being made in the market this=20
year. =20

It was, however, a good day for Sergeant-at-Arms Tony Allerton who=20
collected $193.00. Hack Allen contributed $58.00 in honor of his anniversa=
ry, and=20
John Arnold donated $20.00 in recognition of his son, Jim, who is visiting=20=
from=20
Minneapolis. The Rel Moorcroft fund has reached $600.00 so far with today=
=E2=80=99s=20
contributions of over $100.00. Keep up the good work!

President Leo Phillips informed our group that former Rotarian, Paul Bell,=20
passed away last Friday. Paul owned and operated Gulfstream Travel for man=
y =20
years.

Arthur Reef is taking a leave of absence from Rotary due to his wife=E2=80=
=99s=20
illness. Arthur would love to hear from our members and friends so please=20=
do not=20
hesitate to give him a call. Arthur=E2=80=99s number is 243-2444.

A new membership directory is in the works so if you need to get your=20
picture taken, contact Art Nejame at the Palm Beach Photographic Center in=20
Pineapple Grove. Art is there Monday-Friday and will gladly take a new pho=
to if your=20
old one needs updating.

Leo also thanked the members who have so graciously stepped forward to be=20
sponsors of the golf tournament on October 1st and the Open Doors-Open Hous=
e=20
Centennial Project on November  5th.

President elect Dave Armstrong introduced our guest speaker, Robert=20
Marshall, a Boca Raton real estate agent who traveled to Italy as a member=20=
of the=20
Rotary Group Study Exchange for Young Professionals. The team from our dis=
trict=20
was hosted by Rotary District 2090 in Italy which is made up of the four=20
regions of Molise, Abruzzo, Umbria and Marche. =20

The Rotary team was in Italy for 4 =C2=BD weeks. They spent two to three d=
ays in=20
each city they visited and stayed with host families or in a hotel. One of=20
the highlights of the trip was their daily three hour lunches where they ha=
d a=20
chance to practice their Italian and get to know their host families. =20
Several teachers were part of the entourage. They visited local schools an=
d=20
universities. Robert chose to spend his time meeting with architects, buil=
ders=20
and developers since the real estate profession is only found in the larger=
=20
cities in Italy.

The group was given the opportunity to tour the U.S. Embassy in Rome. The=20
ambassador told them that Rotary has a wonderful reputation in Italy becaus=
e=20
it is the only group that is focused on community service. During their=20
travels the team visited 18 Rotary Clubs. Judging from the beautiful slide=
=20
presentation, they had a fantastic time! =20

The lucky ticket holder for the Green Hat was our esteemed president, Leo=20
Phillips.

Enjoy your  week!     =20
