ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
    October 18, 2005

President Leo Phillips presided over our meeting today. A tradition
continues; Harvey Brown, Jr. gave a very meaningful invocation; thank you, Harvey.

Without the lovely music of Bruce Williams, Sam Altdoerffer did a terrific
job leading the singing. Sam, you are a great soloist; you are the only one
that could stay "on key."

Bruce Williams is still at Bethesda Hospital, after falling at last week's
meeting, and breaking his hip. After speaking with him on Tuesday, he was to
be transferred to the rehab center at the hospital. Please let Bruce know
how much we miss him.

Jess and Judy Sowards are celebrating their eleventh anniversary; he donated
$11.00 in honor of this. We wish you both the very best.

Mark Denkler welcomed visitors. Among them, our song leader, Rotarian Sam
Altdoerffer. Nick Loeb introduced his fiancee, Anna Pettersson.

We welcomed back two of our long time members; Cliff Ripley, returning from
NC, and Gerry Meeks, returning to health, after his surgery.

We wish to extend our condolences to the George Kientzy Family. We were
informed that Mary's father passed away recently.

Bob Erickson pleaded with us to donate our "old" computers, so he can
rebuild them and donate them to charity, through Rotary. (Bob, I hope I can donate
this one, soon!)

ANNOUNCEMENTS: District 6930, Areas 1 & 2, Third Annual Rotary Picnic at
BIWA Park (next to Morikami) on Sunday, October 30, 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. The

November 5, Our Centennial Project, at the home of Anne and Reeve Bright.
Pat Archer is co-chairperson on this project. We wish to thank our generous

each of you, for your continued support. We will be raising funds for
scholarships for the Beacon Center, a division of Community Child Care Center, of
Delray Beach.

Announcement: Please mark your calendar for November 29, Service Above Self
Award, Old School Square, 11:30 a. m. Lunch will be served in gym, following
ceremony.

Announcement: Holiday Party; December 1, Delray Golf Course Restaurant.

This past weekend, our Rotary 6930 Convention was held at PGA Marriott.
Some of our members had the privilege of attending. On Saturday, our club
teamed with another Rotary Club to work in the "Glades Project." The two clubs
painted the Harvest African Church in Pahokee. In return, they were fed a
delicious meal by the "ladies of the church." Among the workers were: Dave
Armstrong, Lyn Huckle, Jimmy Weatherspoon and Jess Sowards. We are grateful to
Dave Armstrong's fiancee, Linda Green, for putting together a terrific slide
show for Dave's presentation of the weekend events, including the work project,
and also some of the convention. Thanks, Linda.

Next week: Our speaker will be: Jim Sugarman, Executive, of American Lung
Association.

May God bless all of you, and keep you safe from Hurricane Wilma.
