ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
November 8, 2005

We are all trying to get back to normal, after such a devastating two weeks
in the lives of South Floridians. We have survived; some of us a bit frayed
around the edges, however. Our beautiful city is being "put back together,"
one transformer, and one debris pickup at a time. I never knew "royal blue"
was such a popular color! May God bless all those who are emotionally
struggling.

Our Board of Directors met at 7:30 a.m. at Ellie's Marilyn Room. All
members are invited to attend these meetings, held second Tuesday, each month.

At noon, President Leo Phillips, a truly dedicated Rotarian, led another
good meeting, in the Flamingo Room. Hack Allen gave the invocation. Jimmy
Weatherspoon, (brave soul) led the group a cappella again, since our wonderful
musician, Bruce Williams, is still recovering from hip surgery. Bruce, we
miss you so much.

We had many birthdays to celebrate today. There was Sue Miller, donating
$45.00; Hack Allen, donating $20.00; John Arnold, donating $85.00; Bruce
Wenzel, donating $39.00 ( his age, of course); Mark Denkler, donating $44.00.
Candace and Emil Etzler are celebrating their eighth anniversary. We wish all
these people the very best, and thank each of you for your generous donations.

Bruce Wenzel, greeted our visiting Rotarians, Oswald Wertz, Rex Taylor, Fred
Jones and our Assistant Governor, Betsy Owen. Dave Richards gave the banner
to Rex Taylor. Make ups were done by Joyce Lunsford, aboard ship, and
Sylvia Pecaro, online.

Congratulations go out to Georgina Kerr-Jarrett-Rice. She thought there
wasn't enough excitement going on with the hurricane, so she decided to get
married! At least she had help taking down the hurricane shutters. Georgina,
just kidding you; we wish you and "Mr. Rice" the very best; you sure are full
of pleasant surprises.

Tony Allerton, Sergeant at Arms, collected a whopping $415.00 today. That
has to be a record!

Pat Archer told the club of the roaring success of our Centennial Project
event, "Open House-Open Doors," hosted by Reeve and Anne Bright, at their
lovely home. We wish to thank all those who worked so diligently, to make this
such a success. Pat, our hats off to you and Anne Bennett (CCCC) for
co-chairing this event. Anne and Reeve, we thank you for being such gracious hosts.
To all those who supported the event, sponsorship and attendance; (in spite
of the big obstacle) we thank each of you. With our sponsorships, ticket
sales, raffles, challenges by members, and a generous check from County
Commissioner, Mary McCarty, on behalf of PB County, for $20,000.00, we gathered in a
total of: $51,543.00! This money is to benefit the Community Child Care
Center Beacon Center. This certainly is an example of "Service Above Self."

Announcement: November 29, is our "Service Above Self" Award Luncheon, at
Old School Square; time is 11:30 a.m. We will meet on the front walk, for the
ceremony, then proceed to the gym for another delicious luncheon, by Ellie's
Catering. Please pay Sally Dye for this event, in advance. It makes
everything run much smoother.

Announcement: December 1, Holiday Party; Delray Beach Golf Club Restaurant.
It begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be raffles; dinner; music by Eclipse,
for your dancing pleasure. The price for all this fun is $50.00 per person.
Come join us. Our holiday wreath sale begins soon; please keep this in
mind. Bill Arnst will keep us informed.

Asst. Governor Betsy Owen reminded us of the "Duck Race," sponsored by the
Sunrise of Delray Rotary Club, being held November 19. This should be another
Rotary fun day; we wish all of you "Sunrisers" success in this event.

At 9:00 a. m., this morning, we procured a speaker for today's meeting.
Boy, is that short notice, or what! A very gracious lady, who is a dynamic
speaker, helped us out. She is Dr. Lynn Migdal, Chiropractor. She practices in
Delray Beach, at Migdal Chiropractic & Family Wellness Center, for
twenty-four years. She took a five year hiatus, but is back. She went to school at NY
Chiropractic. She spoke on Healing for the Body and Life. (Wow, did we need
that, after Wilma!) She may be reached at: _www.migdalchiropractic.com_
(http://www.migdalchiropractic.com) .
