ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
December 13, 2005
At 7:30 a.m. your Board of Directors met in Ellie's Marilyn Room, led by
President Leo Phillips. These meetings are well attended; much is accomplished;
all members are invited to attend. If you are interested, mark your
calendar for the second Tuesday of each month.
The noon meeting was led by President Phillips. Ernie Simon gave a lovely
invocation. Jim Pignato led the singing, accompanied by "Mr. Music Man,"
Bruce Williams.
Art NeJame welcomed about four visiting Rotarians, and a prospective member,
Shirley Johnson.
Fred Bonardi, wearing two hats again, first gave us the stock report,
assuring us that Greenspan was going to raise rates again; which he did. Fred then
gave the Sergeant at Arms report. He collected a total of $192.00
Of the money collected, $40.00 was donated by Bill Talen; $20.00 was "glad
to be back." The other $20.00 was donated because of his achievement; being
approved, in November, to receive the newly formed Wright Brothers Master
Pilot Award. This is quite a distinction, awarded only to those who (1)have a
total of 50 years involved in U. S. aviation as a pilot; (there are ten more
requirements to qualify for this prestigious award.) You may go to the
website: FAA's Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award to learn more about this. Bill,
we congratulate you!
Congratulations go out to Stormi Norem and his new bride, Diane. Stormi had
a birthday, and a wedding. He donated $55.00 for his birthday; $10.00 for
his wedding, commenting: "Georgina beat him to it." As you know, she is now
Georgina Rice (a much easier name to write). (Seems Steve Bates started this
"wedding thing" a few months ago. This has been quite a year for weddings in
our club.) We wish all of you the very best.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The club still has lovely, aromatic wreaths for sale. Bill
Arnst has the best smelling vehicle in town, where he hauls the wreaths. The
price is $25.00; the smell is beautiful. Please call Bill for your order.
ANNOUNCEMENT: This Sunday, December 18, The Delray Beach Sunrise Club will
be having their Holiday Party at Bermuda High, 2150 S. Ocean Boulevard, 1:00
to 4:00 p.m. Our club has been invited to attend; the price is $15.00; the
attire is casual, since it will be mostly outdoors, on the ocean. Please
contact Betsy Owen for details:
It was announced that Assistant Governor Betsy Owen will be nominated to run
for District Governor; Leo Phillips will be nominated for Assistant Governor
for 2006-2008.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Our first event in the new year will be a "Membership
Mixer,"
to be held on January 26, at Palm Beach Photo Center, compliments of Art and
Fatima NeJame.
Dave Armstrong had the pleasure of introducing our guest speaker, Pam Moore,
Executive Director of Rotary's Camp Florida, for the past thirteen years.
This is a project of the Florida Rotary Districts. No individual, Rotary
Club, Rotary District or any other organization owns any interest whatsoever in
the Camp or in the corporation.
This camp opened in 1991, and is located in Brandon, FL (mid-state). This
camp faces the challenges and illnesses of kids with Cancer, Diabetes,
Tourettes Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Mentally & Physically Abused,
Asthmas & Allergy, Blood Disorders, Hospice, Birth Defects, Orthopedic and
Cerebral Palsy. This is quite an undertaking, and requires being close to
hostpitals, although it has its own Infirmary; also library, pool, dining hall,
and much more.
Ms. Moore told us they have a budget of $240,000, and depends on donations,
especially from Rotary Clubs. All Rotarians are invited to come to the camp;
volunteers are always needed. For more information: 813-654-4042. Website:
rotaryscampflorida.org, or Email: _rotarys@tampabay.rr.com_
(mailto:rotarys@tampabay.rr.com) .
The Green Hat is now worth $420.00 +, since Joyce Lunsford missed the Ace!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
HAPPY HANUKKAH!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
