ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

December 20, 2005

The Flamingo Room is beautifully decorated; Bruce Williams is playing
holiday music; the scene is set for a festive luncheon. President Leo Phillips
opened the meeting; Rev. Andy Hall gave a lovely invocation; Jimmy Weatherspoon
topped it off with two great holiday songs; yes, another great meeting.

Mickey Manning welcomed three visiting Rotarians: C. Ron Allen, President of
Sunrise Rotary Club of Delray Beach; Gerson Blatnick and Steve Gutterman.

Fred Bonardi, (wearing two hats, as usual) first gave the stock report. He
had good news to offer. On a whole, the market was up at noon. He then gave
the Sergeant at Arms report. Andy Hall paid for an unclaimed banner; George
Kientzy donated $50.00; Inga Talman donated $5.00; Roger Richardson donated
$5.00, for "Peace on Earth." Total: $168.00

We mourn the death of a long time fellow Rotarian, John Morgan, age 86.
John joined Rotary in Youngstown, OH in 1948. He joined our club in January
1984. He was our club president 1991-92. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow.
His classification was Health Insurance. Our condolences go out to his widow,
Marian and Family. Services will be held in Ohio.

Also, our condolences go out to Egon Kurz, who lost his love of 65+ years,
Elsie, on the 14th. A memorial service was held on Sunday afternoon. A
beautiful tribute was given to such a brilliant, loving lady. She was well known
for her published poetry. Egon wrote his last love letter to her, which was
read at the service. What a beautiful love story. Egon, we all love you,
and look forward to your return to our club.

The Sunrise Rotary Club held its Holiday Party on Sunday, at the home of
Asst. Governor Betsy Owen, at Bermuda High, on the ocean. Many from our club
were in attendance; what a great party. Thanks! By the way, Past District
Governor, Pat Starkey was in attendance; that lady gets around!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Our first get together in the new year will be a Membership
Mixer, being held at Palm Beach Photo Center, compliments of Art and Fatima
NeJame. The date is JANUARY 26, 5:00 PM. Please bring a prospective member.

Nancy Owens told us of our club's involvement of a special project on
literacy; "Dictionary Project." It will involve third graders in our local Delray
Schools. Our schools will be Pine Grove, Orchard View, S. D. Spady, Village
Academy and Banyan Creek. The Sunrise Rotary Club will be distributing
dictionaries to the remaining local schools. Nancy is looking for volunteers to
help distribute the dictionaries, shortly after the new year.

Our guest speaker today was Jacqueline Whitmore, founder of The Protocol
School of Palm Beach, FL and the author of Business Class: Etiquette Essentials
for Success at Work. I own a copy of this book; it is essential to each of
us in business; I highly recommend it. Jacqueline is also the Holiday
Etiquette Expert for Office Depot, the Cell Phone Etiquette Expert for Sprint, and
the founder of National Cell Phone Courtesy Month in July. (This was being
announced as someone's cell phone was ringing in the audience; of course, we
don't know whose it was).

Jacqueline ranks as one of the most widely quoted etiquette experts in the
U. S. Her advice has appeared in many national publications, as well as
being interviewed on many of the well know television networks.

Before starting her company, Jacqueline spent more than 14 years in the
hospitality and tourism industry. She served as protocol officer and publicist
for the renowned Breakers Hotel.

Jacqueline, who is knowledgeable in many fields of etiquette, chose to speak
on "The Handshake," and how it is interpreted. We got many laughs, as well
as learning proper handshake.

For more information, go to her website: _www.etiquetteexpert.com_
(http://www.etiquetteexpert.com) . She also has a "Test Your Etiquette Intelligence"
test online. It is well worth taking the time to test yourself. Print it,
and pass it out in your workplace. You may be surprised at what you DON'T
know. Her e-mail is: _info@etiquetteexpert.com_
(mailto:info@etiquetteexpert.com) .

I have been asked to print Egon Kurz's address for those of you who wish to
pay condolences. Also, it has been requested, in lieu of flowers, a donation
may be sent to Hospice By The Sea, in her behalf. His mailing address is:
22601 Camino Del Mar, Apartment 2227, Boca Raton, FL 33433.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
HAPPY HANUKKAH!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
