ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
December 27, 2005
Everyone attending today's meeting seemed to still be in a festive mood, in
the midst of our holidays. I hope all of you had a blessed Christmas, and a
Happy Hanukkah (my preferred spelling).
President Leo Phillips led another terrific, informative meeting. Our
invocation was given by Rev. Roger Richardson; a beautiful invocation. Steve Rich
led us in song, with a couple of our favorites. Of course, Bruce Williams
gave us beautiful music, for dining. (Bruce, you always miss your accolades,
leaving before they are given. You are appreciated.)
Bill Talen donated $81.00, in honor of his birthday. Con Fecher donated
$50.00 for his birthday. Then, he donated $50.00 more, for no reason! We wish
both of you a beautiful, healthy birthday. Sue and Tony Miller are
celebrating their anniversary; she donated $18.00. We wish all of you the best, and
thank you for your generosity.
Bruce Wenzel greeted our visitors. Among them was T. G. Riley, Rotary
International Director, from Newark, Ohio. Also, Betsy Owen, our District 6930
Asst. Director was in attendance, (also, a member of Sunrise Rotary of Delray
Beach). There were four other visiting Rotarians. Cliff Ripley had a guest,
Mark, from Manhattan.
Lou Cucci did make ups. Also, at this point, it was announced that Lou will
be moving to Stuart; you will be missed; we wish you the best.
Tony Allerton, Sergeant at Arms, gave us a report of earnings of $280.00.
Among the announcements was: Roy Simon's newest grandson, born during the
holidays; Dave Armstrong's new granddaughter, Briana, and Harvey Brown, Jr.'s
engagement, announced on Christmas. (Harvey, you have a great gal.)
Congratulations to each of you.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Sally Dye announced "Dues are Due." If you have not picked
up your envelope, please do so, as you enter the door.
Our new club brochure is here. Please pick up a brochure, so you will have
the information available for new prospective members. Our first event of
the new year will be a "Membership Mixer," to be held on January 26, 5:00 p.m.,
until 7:00 p.m., at the Palm Beach Photo Museum/Centre, compliments of Art
and Fatima NeJame. Please be thinking of a great prospect that you can invite
to this event. The more, the better.
Nancy Owens is asking for volunteers to help deliver the "Project
Dictionary" to our local third graders on January 10, 11, 12, and 17. If you can spare
time on either of these days, please let Nancy know, immediately.
Bill Adams, Chair of Nominating Committee, presented the slate of officers
for the upcoming year. Also on this committee is Pat Archer and Dave
O'Connell. They are:
President David Armstrong
Pres. Elect Kurt Godfrey
Vice Pres. Shirley Clark
Sec. John Callahan
Treas. Bill Morse
Exec. Sec. Sally Dye
Board of Directors:
Pat Archer
Bill Arnst
Bill Adams
Lyn Huckle
Ellie Lowery
Mark Denkler
Ernie Simon
Past President: Leo Phillips
A vote was taken, and vote was unanimous. We thank the committee for all
its efforts.
Our guest speaker was none other than Assistant Governor of District 6930,
Betsy Owen; called on a moment's notice, and responding with a great program.
Betsy used this time to interact with members, to explain what the Rotary
Permanent Fund and Annual Fund is all about. She used members for
each phase of these accounts, and their benefits, both international and
local. She was "backed up" by Theodore D. Griley II, Trustee, The Rotary
Foundation, and former Director of Rotary International. The two of them gave a
clear understanding of these accounts.
We are very proud of Rotary's accomplishments in the Polio Plus program. We
are so close to having Polio stamped out. Mr. Griley also announced that
Frank Devlin, RI Chairman, and former President of RI, will be in the area in
April to speak; more to follow.
Our Green Hat is now up to $487.00, thanks to Bill Talen, who did not draw
the Ace of Spades!
Next week: TBA
