Dear Rotarians and Friends:
After reviewing the weather report, President Dave Armstrong has asked me to
send out a memo stating that our Rotary Meeting, scheduled for tomorrow,
Tuesday, August 29, has been cancelled. Please contact anyone you know that
might not receive the "Ramblings." After consultation with other members,
they came to the conclusion that most of us will be busy making preparations
for the possibility of Hurricane Ernesto "visiting" us. Our speaker, Nancy
Hurd has also cancelled her speaking engagement with us for tomorrow. I
took the liberty of attaching the following memo from the City of Delray
Beach. Please take time to review it.
Be Safe; be prepared!
Ellie

Ernesto Prompts City of Delray Beach Preparations
Tropical storm Ernesto is predicted to become a hurricane by late today as
it crosses Cuba into the straits south of the Florida Keys. The City of
Delray Beach and the Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Centers are
standing by for full activation, should that become necessary in the next 24
hours. Palm Beach County Schools will be closed tomorrow for the
eventuality of a serious storm. As of this hour and projected storm tracks
indicate Delray Beach will begin experiencing tropical storm winds of 39 MPH
plus by early Tuesday evening.
Delray Beach residents are urged to review their personal plans and
preparations. Residents are reminded to cease all trimming of vegetation and
that debris of any kind is NOT to be placed at curb side during this storm
emergency. Garbage pick up on tomorrow (Tuesday) will go on as scheduled.
The Palm Beach EOC will determine evacuation and shelter issues early
Wednesday morning.
The City of Delray Beach has an information line at (561) 243-7840 that is
updated frequently with messages of current conditions as they become
available. Additional information can be heard on Delray Beach Emergency
Radio at 1620 AM which operates 24/7 out of the Delray Beach Emergency
Operations Center. To reach the Delray Beach EOC, call (561) 243-7400 only
when necessary. Local media outlets (radio and television) are also a
valuable source of up to date information.
