ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

December 5, 2006

Are you going to our Holiday/Christmas Party?????  If so, time is running
out to decide; it's this Thursday, December 7, 2006, 6:00 p.m. at the Delray
Beach Golf Club Restaurant.  This is located on Highland Avenue (off
Homewood Dr; accessible from Linton Blvd, or Atlantic Ave.)  You may call
Lyn Huckle at 732-8224, for further details.  There will be a scrumptious
buffet dinner and dancing.  It's a great way to get acquainted with our
fellow Rotarians.  

Our meeting was presided over by President Dave Armstrong.  Dave O'Connell
gave the invocation, quoting an Irish blessing.  Then, Jimmy Weatherspoon,
in his jolly spirit, led us in a couple of holiday jingles.  Of course,
Bruce Williams, in his suave way, entertained us while we ate lunch.

We celebrate Bob Teninga's birthday on December 8; he donated $48.00 to our
club. Rev. Roger Richardson donated $50.00 to our club today, honoring his
mother, Evelyn's birthday.  We wish each of you the very best, and thank you
for your generous contributions.

Harvey Brown welcomed our visiting Rotarians, from around the globe.  A
prospective member, and former Rotarian, in three states, Patti Allard, is
looking us over, for membership.  (She is retired from healthcare
profession.)  He also praised those who did make ups (regardless of how they
did it; online, or visiting other clubs).  Among those doing make ups were
Sue Miller, Tom Cook (7 x's), Roger Richardson (4 x's), and Bruce Wenzel
(poor Bruce can't win with the gang giving him a hard time.  My advice to
Bruce; don't miss any meetings.)

Today, we inducted two new members; they are Paul Barde, a Sales Consultant
with Delray Accura; his sponsor is Dave O'Connell; and Alan Kornblau,
Director of Delray Beach Library; sponsor is Leo Phillips.  Mr. Kornblau was
previously a fourteen year member of Rotary, in Madison, NJ.

Fred Bonardi gave a very positive stock report, reporting the market is up
and looking good for the year.

Today, our Dictionary Project began; Nancy Owens reporting a good start;
they will finish this week.

Candace Etzler, serving as Sergeant at Arms, gathered in a total of $254.00
for the day.  Jim Pignato paid for a banner he did not give away.  

President Armstrong reported that our club was able to raise $5,000.00,
supporting the new Achievement Center (formerly CCCC.)  He has been in
contact with Rotary International, hoping to receive grants for our
International Project, drilling water wells in Honduras.  As you know, Dave
Richards has had hands on with this project, and hopes to do so again, by
spring.

Our illustrious leaders, President Dave Armstrong, and Past President Leo
Phillips, now Assistant District Governor, went on the District 6930 Rotary
Cruise "Party" recently to Nassau, Bahamas.  They helped to distribute 2,100
backpacks.  Our club contribution backpacks were packed by Debbie Ferrell
and Kay Johnson.  Ladies, again, we thank you.

They told of the seminars and projects they participated in, while aboard
ship, and in Nassau.  All in all, it appears they learned a lot; worked a
lot; and played a lot.  

Next Week:  Our guest speaker will be Daniel Biaggi, Production Director of
the Palm Beach Opera.  He will speak on Arts and the Opera.
