Rotary Ramblings - May 15, 2007

Hack Allan delivered the invocation

Steve Rich led us in a wonderful "America The Beautiful" and "Smile" to the
talents of Bruce Williams

Steve Bates celebrated his second anniversary.

Harvey Brown introduced the visiting Rotarians and guests with his usual
joviality, although there were not many of them - our snowbirds have pretty
much departed. But Ernie Simon's had a guest, his nephew, Phil and Mike
Ansile, our Merrill Lynch account representative joined our amusing group
for lunch. Tom Cook had 7 make-ups in West Palm Beach - go Tom. And our
new members, Patricia Egan and Alan Cotzen, enjoyed their last guest
introduction.

Fred Bonardi gave the great stock report - market was up over 100 points.

Candace Etzler, as sergeant-at-arms, collected $106 for everything from More
Rain, to Thanks for the Rain, sports, scholarships, Paris Hilton relief fund
and more. Kay Johnson paid $5 to make an announcement about St. Joseph's
Memorial Chapel, which will be held Friday, May 25th, to honor veterans,
past, present and future. Afterwards, the children will be planting flags
at the Boynton Beach cemetery to honor the veterans.

Announcements - Awards Dinner - Thursday, June 7th - 6pm at Delray Golf Club
- 4 clubs in our district will be participating and attendance is
encouraged. Cost is $30 and you can sign up at the front table at any
Rotary Meeting.

Dave Armstrong has submitted Alan Kornblue's quoted statement to Rotary
International from his introduction speech of last week when he state at the
end "then I joined Rotary and my life is complete".

David indicated he letter from Kathy Bush thanking us for the Ryla student.

New members, Patricia Egan and Alan Cotzen where installed at which time
they each told a little about their background.

Patricia was introduced to horticulture and gardening by her grandmother and
then encouraged by her parents. While working on her education at Penn
State in horticulture and landscape engineering, she was encouraged to alter
her major to floral design and proceeded to have a varied career both in
Pennsylvania and Florida. She was introduced to Rotary several years ago by
the funeral director who assisted in her husband's arrangements, and has
felt it very worthwhile. However, when she relocated back to Florida she
did not immediately find our club. She was delighted to find our club as it
is large enough to get involved in different fundraisers which is her
interest.

Alan is a native Floridian having been born in Miami. He was raised in
South Carolina and after completing his degree was involved in several
businesses, before becoming branch manager at the Amtrust at Linton and
Federal. He invited all to visit for a tour. He is married and has 3
children all of whom are in Florida universities, so he is an economic
supporter for several Florida college teams.

Bob Teninga never had a chance to tell his story. He and his sister are
both adopted, and they grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and California.
As his father was the Sr. VP for Kmart, he accompanied him at an early age
to the stores developing an interest in retail. Started his own parking lot
striping company at 16, which was incorporated when he was 18. He sold the
company when he went to college. Went on to be an executive in food retail
companies, such as Mother's Cake and Cookie. He and other executives from
that company bought Keebler and took them private. Sold to Kellogg in 2001
and moved to Arizona to enjoy life - collecting cars. He decided he needed
to be closer to his sister and parents, who are in Florida, so relocated to
Florida. He and a former associate have formed AMT Global Partners, which
exports food and consumable to the international community launching local
providers globally.

Green hat collected - $489 - Tom Cook had the number - see what happens when
you pop in periodically.

Closed as usual.

Have a good week.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Miller
