Rotary Ramblings - May 22, 2007
Sylvia Pecaro delivered the invocation
In honor of our visiting scholarship recipients (so they would know who we
are), Jimmy Weatherspoon led us in a wonderful "R.O.T.A.R.Y." and another
one of our anthems (the name of which now escapes me) accompanied by our
illustrious piano player.
Nick Loeb introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests. We had one visitor
(not including the 2 students) and several make-ups).
Tony Allerton managed to collected $107 despite no birthdays or
anniversaries, but with some scholarship contributions, as well as God Bless
America and Another Day in Paradise With a Little Rain
President Armstrong officially welcomed our newest members, Patricia Egan
and Alan Cotzen to their first meeting as official Rotarians, Patricia Egan
and Alan Cotzen.
There was not stock report - but from all reports things are up.
District Awards Night - Thursday, June 7th at the Delray Beach Golf Club -
6pm - tickets are $30. We need to support our club and the District by
participating. If you have not signed up, you can do so at the next
meeting. If you are planning to attend and have or (have not) yet signed up
- Please make sure to bring payment to the May 29th meeting as we need to
turn this over to the facility. Thank you.
Sylvia Pecaro has prepared the Club's tax return and we owe her a debt of
gratitude for her service to the club.
Last week Atlantic High School had its Seniors Awards ceremony, at which
time our club distributed nine (9) $1,500 awards. In addition, we awarded
the $1,000 Scholastic Achievement Foundation of Palm Beach County Award -
funds we helped raise. All the scholarship recipients were invited to come
to our meeting either 5/22 or 5/29 (or whenever they are available - as many
of them are already heading off to summer sessions of college). In any
case, 2 of our recipients joined us for lunch today, Casille Systermans who
is going to Boston College in the fall and Altanese Phelenius who is going
to Florida International University in Miami studying pre-law.
Wayne Brockney (one of our newest members) has been generously spending his
time setting our club up on an accounting system. We have not had an
accurate accounting system since Rel Morecroft passed away, so this is quite
an accomplishment. Wayne showed us the figures since the beginning of our
fiscal year - July 1, 2006. These schedules included Income and Expense
schedules which Wayne went over line item by line item, as well as Balance
Sheet. As a result of the outstanding efforts and dedication of the members
of this club in fundraising, we have netted over $19,000 to-date from our
various activities (bingo, Delray Affairs, etc.). Wayne's only
recommendation to the incoming President was that he might want to do a
budget for next year. Way to go Wayne! And Jan Powell for providing him
with a lot of the entries!!
Our Rotary Club Blue Jays Little League team won the league championship.
Green hat - $500 - Ernie Simon - did not pull the Ace.
