ROTARY CLUB DELRAY BEACH
July 3, 2007
President Kurt Godfrey held his first meeting today, doing a terrific job.
Bill Adams gave the invocation; being thankful for our freedom in this great
Country.
Bruce Williams was at his best, playing a repertoire of patriotic music for
us. Jimmy Weatherspoon stepped to the podium and led us in "God Bless
America."
Betsy and Mike Owen are celebrating their 24th anniversary, and Pat and
David Archer are celebrating their 14th anniversary. We wish all of you
many more happy years together.
Harvey Brown, in his usual astute manner, welcomed one visiting Rotarian.
He also told us Fred Bonardi has now joined the "Wenzel School of
Technology;" he did three make ups online.
Fred Bonard informed us that the stock market is up and it will close early
today because of the holiday tomorrow. He noted that oil and interest rates
are down.
Sergeant at Arms Roy Simon gathered in a tidy sum of $141.00, which was very
good for such a small group. Betsy Owen gave $20.00 in honor of our new
officers.
Mike Campbell announced there would be FREE golf at Delray Beach Golf Club
on July 21. This is a benefit for Habitat for Humanity. Anyone may sponsor
a hole for $100.00. The time will be 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please see
Mike for more information, or call 561-819-6070 (Habitat for Humanity).
One of the first duties of our new president was to award perfect attendance
pins. Even though the crowd was small, due to the upcoming holiday, he gave
eleven pins. They are as follows:
Bob Teninga, one year; Harvey Brown, Jr., one year; Erick Meyer, two years;
Sally Dye, three years; Dave O'Connell, three years; Leo Phillips, five
years; Joyce Lunsford, five years; Lew Currier, ten years; Pat Archer,
eleven years; Ellie Lowery, twelve years; and last, but not least, Ernie
Simon, forty years of perfect attendance. More pins are to be given later.
President-elect Steve Bates introduced our program for the day. It was none
other than President Kurt Godfrey, sharing his recent experience at Rotary
International Convention at Salt Lake City, Utah. Kurt showed much of the
mountainous scenery of that area. He also had a film clip of the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir, as they sang for 16,000 Rotarians. He stated how
inspiring the convention was for him, and advised every Rotarian to attend
at least one Rotary Convention; "it will change your life." He thanked the
club for sponsoring his trip.
The Green Hat now holds $679.00, since Sally Dye did not draw the Ace.
