"Ramblings" by Sue Miller
  _____

Rotary Ramblings - October 3, 2007

Called to order by President Kurt after a particularly delightful array of
piano pieces performed by our own Bruce Williams.

Invocation was given by Jimmy Weatherspoon at which time the power went out
(power failure ordained).

Jimmy also led us in "He Has the Whole World in His Hands" and "Home Home on
the Range".

Two birthdays - Mike Campbell and Mickey Manning.

Harvey Brown had only one make-up to announce - sorry Harvey. But there
were a couple of visitors, including John McConnell who has applied for
membership.

Fred Bonardi gave the stock report - Dow was down 40 points, but NASDAQ was
up 13%.

Fred also wore the Sergeant-at-arms hat, which was an exception collection
due to Mike and Mickey's birthday contributions - $192 total collected.

Kurt Godfrey announced that on November 10th, our club will be doing a
Habitat for Humanity house (in Boynton Beach according to Mike Campbell).

Dave Armstrong announced the annual Golf Tournament to benefit the
Scholastic Achievement Foundation to be held on October 13th. Players and
sponsors needed, as this benefits a local high school.

Guest speaker introduced by Bob Teninga - Mary Leavenworth, Area Director
for Boys and Girls Clubs - Wellington, Boynton Beach and Delray Beach clubs.
She has held this position for 3 years prior to which she was with the
organization in Massachusetts where it began in 1960. The Delray Beach
club, formed in 1971, is one of 13 in the County serving 7,000 children per
year. It only takes children from the area and membership is only $20/year.
As they have a professional staff obviously the cost is much more than that
per child. Many of the children come from low socio-economic homes with
often one parent. They provide a variety of programs including abstinence
(they share space with Planned Parenthood which draws teens); safe internet,
character development, leadership, mock voting, amber alert, safety and
more. They also participate in partnerships with other agencies that can
benefit the children such as Milagro Center (for art). Mary invited our
members to visit the club, as they are in need of Board Members. The age
range is 6-19 and they are open until 8 pm daily. They are located at 1451
SW 7th Street near the Catherine Strong Park and directly across from the
former Carver Estates. She suggested calling her cell first to assure she
is on the property for a visit (561) 512-9714,

The green hat was in excess of $1,100 and Stormy won again, but did not pull
the ace. Next week we need a winner.

Meeting was closed with the 4-way test.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Miller
