ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

October 30, 2007

Mike Campbell is the smiling face that greeted all of us at the door today.
He is the local director for Habitat for Humanity. Mike has a special
project slated for November 10, 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. He is looking for
volunteers from our club for this project. Please sign up, wear your Rotary
shirt, and get out there and help build a home for someone in need.

President Kurt Godfrey presided over yet another fantastic meeting. Harvey
Brown gave a beautiful invocation. Jimmy Weatherspoon kept us in a good
mood with his song selections. Bruce Williams did his renditions of his
"Halloween Repertoire." Steve Bates gave money in honor of our "piano man."
We all sang Happy Birthday to Sue Miller. She generously donated $47.00 to
our fund, double her age.

Harvey Brown stepped to the podium again, welcoming our foreign Rotarians
Jeffrey Dennis and Oswald Wertz, among the local visiting Rotarians. We
also had Becky Woodbridge, a potential member visiting, along with Lorraine
Weingest, who is to be installed next week. Lorraine is with AFLAC.

This is the first publication for potential members David James, Delray
Beach Fire Chief, and Becky Woodbridge, a Realtor.

Fred Bonardi gave a positive stock market report, even though the market was
down 55 points at the time. He compared it to the yearly all-time high. He
felt very positive about the Feds cutting the interest rate.

Welcome back Kay Johnson; you have been missed. She was so happy to be back
she donated $120.00 to the club.

Sergeant at Arms Fred Bonardi, we want to thank you for eleven years of good

Attorney Tom Stanley had the distinct pleasure of introducing our guest
speaker, a friend of his, Representative Adam Hasner. Rep. Hasner was first
elected to the Florida House of Representatives in November 2002. He is
currently serving his third term representing District 87. This includes
the coastal communities of southern Palm Beach County and Northern Broward
County, including Delray Beach, Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach. In June
2007, Representative Hasner was appointed Majority Leader of the Florida
House.

Representative Hasner, throughout his time in office, has been on the front
line when it comes to issues important to Floridians. An example is during
the 2007 Legislative Session, he fought for and won the fight to have the
area's first Teaching Hospital built at FAU.

Representative Hasner's latest "fight" has been for property tax relief. He
stated, "I believe our state is at a crossroads." Property taxes and
insurance are twin threats to the state. For the first time in years,
student enrollment is down. It is becoming unaffordable to live and work in
this state; families are moving out. The former "snowbirds" are now being
referred to as "half-backs." They are settling in southern states north of
Florida, where property tax and insurance are more affordable, yet the
winters are fairly mild.

The House of Representatives worked together and presented a bill, voting
108-2 to give relief to home and business owners. The Senate then presented
a counter-offer at the last possible hour.  He promises this is not the end;
he and the House of Representatives will continue fight to "save our homes."

This proposed plan will be presented on the January 29, 2008 ballot. Please
pay special attention to this referendum. Get out and vote.

Representative Adam Hasner stated he loves his job; he also publicly thanked
his lovely wife Jillian for her diligence, in allowing him to spend so much
of his time "working for his people." For more information: Google: State
Representative Adam Hasner, or by phone at 561-279-1616. His district
office is located at 33 N. E. Fourth Avenue, Delray Beach, 33483.

Tom Stanley is our program chairperson for November. Next week our guest
speaker will be Earl Denney, Esq., of Searcy, Denney, Scarola, Barnhardt and
Shipley.

Our green hat is now over $1,449.00, with only twelve cards left in the
deck! Wow!
