First, let me apologize for the delay in completing these, with all the
Thanksgiving Day preparations, I just frankly forgot about them until 5:30
this morning. In any case..

Rotary Ramblings - November 20, 2007

Called to order by President Kurt after our usual delightful piano performed
by our own Bruce Williams.

Invocation was given by Tom Cook and Jimmy Weatherspoon led us in renditions
of "Home on the Range" and "Rotary".

Nancy Owens celebrated her birthday (thanks to some prodding from Tony
Allerton).

Several prayer requests were made:  Regi Moorecroft's brother passed away;
John Arnold is not doing well in the Health Center at Harbour's Edge and
finally, Bill Talon's wife has been diagnosed with incurable Luekemia.
Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers.

Harvey Brown introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests. One of our
visiting Rotarians from Littleton, Colorado shared that he will be staying
here for several months, so we'll all have an opportunity to get to know
him. He brought a banner from his club and was presented with one from our
club by Cliff Ripley. Kay Johnston introduced her guest (her husband) - yes
he does really exist.

Kurt indicated he received confirmation from his wife at Merrill Lynch that
the market was up 39 points.

Tony Allerton, as Sergeant-at-arms collected $182.00 from a variety of
sources, including $10 from Nancy Owens. Since he surprised her with his
psychic awareness of her birthday, he cleaned out her wallet. Numerous
sports, scholarships and the biggie - Happy Thanksgiving!! contributed to
the total.

Announcements - Mark your calendars:

11/27 - Service above Self - at Old School Square

12/6 - Holiday Party - at Delray Beach Golf Club

Alan Korblue announced - sell raffle tickets - get money back for raffle
tickets.

Speaker(s) introduced by Bill Adams. Leo Phillips and Bill Adams gave a
very informative presentation on the Rotary Foundation utilizing a video
presentation prepared by Peter Costello. Rotary Foundation needs to be our
"charity of choice". District giving, as well as our club's giving, as
increased substantially since 2003. Some of the programs being supported by
these funds are:  Polio Eradication ($600 million spent thru 6/30/07);
Rotary Center for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution;
Ambassadorial Scholarships and Group Study Exchange (these last 2 our club
has been directly involved in by having applicants for the scholarships and
hosting exchange students). In addition, there are numerous grant
opportunities - District Simplified Grants, Matching Grants (like what we
are going to be utilizing for the wells in Honduras), Volunteer Service
Grants, and 3H Grants.

There are 2 needs - 2 ways of giving: Annual Program Fund - For support
today. Funds donated today are available to our District 3 years later in
approved funds - funds approved for certain projects.

Permanent Fund - is an endowment fund, which is not spent but invested.
Finally there are also Testamentary Gifts - donated after the donor's death.
There are tax benefits to all donations to the Foundation. The thing to
think about is - what will your legacy be to the world? Let Rotary
Foundation be your "charity of choice".

Also, there are several sites to check non-profits to see how they spend
their money: Charity Navigator and Better Business Bureau's Live Giving
Alliance.

Green Hat had $1,671 and Joyce Lundsford had the winning ticket. Too bad
though she did not win the money. Only a few cards left.

Bill Arnst announced that the wreaths should be in the day after
Thanksgiving. They will not be brought to Old School Square next week. If
you want your wreath before December 4th, call Bill to arrange to collect
it.

Last, but definitely not least, Lorraine Weingast was finally installed as
our newest Rotarian. Nancy Owens is her sponsor. Lorraine is with Aflac.
