ROTARY RAMBLINGS

ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH

February 19, 2008

As we dined on prime rib and the trimmings, and listened to the music of
Maestro Bruce Williams, President Kurt Godfrey sounded the gong, and opened
our meeting.

Joyce Lunsford offered a lovely Rotary invocation. We sang a couple of
favorites, and then sang Happy Birthday to Bill Adams, who generously
donated $60.00 to the club.

Harvey Brown stepped to the microphone and welcomed six visiting Rotarians,
after giving us an update on "goings on" in the space program. This man is
so in tune with this program; he never ceases to amaze me; what a passion.

Mike Campbell savored every clap he received while he slowly approached the
podium (he's taken lessons from Harv). He served as Sergeant at Arms, doing
a very good job, in Fred Bonardi's absence. He gathered in a total of
$145.00.

We had to say good-bye to Janet Powell today. She is moving to Tennessee.
I have been coaching her in how to say "y'all." She has been a terrific
asset to our club; Jan you will be missed!

The Board of Directors approved a new prospect today, Marty Phillips. He
will be inducted later.

Good News: Ann Bright is now home. Anne, we wish you the very best of
health.

Bob Teninga's sister is hospitalized; he requests our prayers.

We had the pleasure of having our Ambassadorial Scholar, Christina
Dumbrowski as a guest today. She excitedly told the club of her upcoming
trip to Buenos Aires on February 29 - December. She is dreading the
nine-hour flight, but is well prepared for her arrival, with gifts depicting
life in Florida. As Leo Phillips introduced her, he had an endless list of
some of Christina's achievements, while in school at UF. We are very proud
of this young woman and excited about sponsoring such a deserving student.
She will be attached to a Rotary Club in Buenos Aires, during her stay. She
has promised to keep in contact with our club while there.

Our second speaker for the day was Immediate Past Governor Larry Labadie.
Larry spoke on Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund.

Larry and Maureen Labadie, who have been married thirty-nine years, live in
Vero Beach, where they own a glass and window company, with thirty-five
employees. He has been a Rotarian since 1983. He was president of his club
in 93-94.

Larry showed us a video of what giving to the Permanent Fund is all about;
the title was "Live in Peace Under One Blue Sky." His closing words were
"When is enough enough? Just say "yes," we need to fulfill the need."

Jan Powell did not draw the winning card, so the Green Hat is now $227.00.
