Subject: Serious info for all Rotarians
To all members of the Delray Beach Rotary Club-It is time for all of us as
Rotarians to come to the aid of one of our own-below is the info relayed
from Betsy Owen concerning John O'Connell, one of our newest members. I'd
like to ask all of you to help out as much as you can to help keep his wife
afloat during this most trying of times. I would suggest a donation of $100
and if you can do more, please do-if you can't do that amount right now-
please do what you can. Bring your donations to the next meeting and we will
arrange a meeting with John and his wife down at the hospital to pass on our
club's donation. Please keep John and Molly in your prayers and do what you
can. You can make your checks out to Molly O'Connell. Thanks
YIR,Kurt Godfrey
It grieves me to relate that a new member of the Delray Beach club has be
absent for several weeks with good reason. According to his family he was
involved in a tragic accident which has left him paralyzed from the neck
down and a broken neck. Apparently it was on the news; however, I missed it
completely. He is presently at North Broward Medical Center on Sample Road.
The accident was on April 3. Currently he is on a ventilator and because he
was still having trouble breathing they did a tracheotomy a few days ago.
His wifes name is Molly. His family has been taking turns coming down from
Penn. to help the wife attempt to cope with this tragedy. They have no
children. John is a mortgage broker and things were already rough for him.
His family is trying to get together a fund rasing activity at a local Irish
Pub in Delray Beach and they are thinking of raffling a trip to Ireland. We
will attempt to follow up on this info. The family is trying to remain
positive, but it is very difficult. If they can get him off of the
ventilator, they will move him to a rehab facility closer to their home in
Delray Beach.
Betsy (Owen)
