ROTARY RAMBLINGS
ROTARY CLUB OF DELRAY BEACH
April 29, 2008
Spring has sprung and a couple of our snowbirds are still with us, stating
that it is still snowing up north, and out west. How blessed we are with
this beautiful weather. President Kurt Godfrey presided over another full
house today. Jimmy Weatherspoon, doing double duty, gave the invocation and
then led us in singing. Of course, as always, Bruce Williams welcomed all
of us with his beautiful renditions on piano.
We sang Happy Birthday to Patrick Robinson, "The Man of Steam, Inc." who was
visiting with us today. Mr. Robinson is also being published for membership
into our Rotary Club.
Harvey Brown welcomed a plethora of visiting Rotarians, including Dale and
Beverly Cochran, snowbirds from Littleton, Colorado. "Bernard," gave us a
banner from his home club, "Ormond by the Sea." Marty Phillips did a
make-up, by visiting another club; Alan Kornblau and Gerry Meeks did
make-ups online. Leo Phillips had Ron Ferguson as his guest.
Fred Bonardi gave us a "not so great" stock market report. The DOW was down
30 points; S&P down 4 points; NASDAQ down 5 points. Gold has "dropped" to
$880.00.
Sergeant at Arms Candace Etzler gave her report, and since the amount was
"too low," she did a pin check! She ended up with $100.00. (Good going,
Candace.)
Mike Campbell reported a good day on Saturday, with the Habitat for Humanity
Project, in spite of the fact that Boca won the most in attendance.
The Miracle League is playing every Saturday, at 2:00 P.M. at Bucky Dent
Field. If you find time, please go out and see these youngsters play; it
will warm your heart.
President Kurt Godfrey had me send out an e-mail last week, pertaining to
one of our newest members, John O'Connell. John was in a terrible car
accident a few weeks back. He is in critical condition, including a broken
neck, and a tracheotomy was performed. President Godfrey is pleading for
our financial help with John's medical bills. If you would like to help our
fellow Rotarian, you may make a check out to Molly O'Connell (his wife), and
bring it to Rotary next week. Please keep John and Molly in your prayers.
Sylvia Pecaro had the pleasure of introducing our guest performers today.
They are students at St. Joseph's School, where our own Kay Johnson is
School Administrator. Kay was like a proud "mother" while her students
performed.
Sylvia introduced the Drama/Athletic Coach, Becky Cleveland, a dynamic woman
who introduced the actors. The students performed songs from "The
Enchantment of the Beauty and the Beast." Jack Canty performed the Beast.
The Beauty was/will alternately be performed by Demery Zlatic and Rachael
Pecaro (Sylvia's daughter). The Music Director is Sandra Scott, who
accompanied them on piano. This musical will be performed by St. Joseph's
Episcopal School's Academy of the Arts, at Judith Rogers Theatre, 3300 S.
Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach. The first performance will be Thursday, May
8th, 7:00 p.m., starring Demery as the Beauty; Friday, May 9th, 7:00 p.m.,
starring Rachael (Beauty); Saturday, May 10th, 2:00 p.m., starring Rachael;
Sunday, May 11th, 2:00 p.m. starring Demery. Jack Canty will play the Beast
during all performances. This is free and open to the public. For more
information, call the school office at 561-732-2045, or www.sjsonline.org
<http://www.sjsonline.org/> .
The green had now holds $556.50!
Next week our guest speaker will be Shelly Weill, speaking on Boy Scouting.
Please visit our website to view our photo gallery. President Godfrey
continually updates the photo gallery.
