Fire-Rescue Chief Completes Harvard Fellowship Program
July 31, 2008:  The City of Delray Beach welcomes the return of Fire-Rescue Chief David C. James who completed the Program for Senior Executives at Harvard University on July 25, 2008. 
The three-week course was held at the University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, a graduate professional school dedicated to training people for excellence in government and public service.  The curriculum focuses on the development of conceptual frameworks for addressing policy issues, explores the relationship between citizens and their government and examines the ethical and professional responsibilities of leadership.
Each year the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), together with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Fire Administration, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the International Fire Service Training Association, offers fellowships to the Harvard program.  Candidates from the United States, Canada and abroad are chosen based on a process of individual interviews as well as a comprehensive group case study critique.  Chief James was one of eight senior fire officials selected for this year's fellowship. 
"I would have to rate my experience at Harvard as one of the most gratifying and humbling of my thirty-four year professional career," states Chief James.  "The quality of the instruction was everything you would expect at Harvard; however, an equal amount of learning came from the diverse group of seventy-four state and local government officials I shared the class with. Developing a professional network of skilled and knowledgeable individuals you can refer to from time to time on critical issues is very important."
