Minutes from Rotary Club Delray 11/18/08
 
 
Meeting began with the always great music of Bruce Williams
Prayer given by the “respectable” Harvey Brown
Jimmy Weatherspoon led the group in cheerful song…..
Americathe Beautiful, 
and a fine version of R_O_T_A_R_Y  was being recorded in order to send back to ahome club back up north.  ( why?) 
Celebrating Nancy Owens 39th Birthday ------again----------
Visiting Rotarians introduced by the now only  “semi –respectable”  Harvey Brown, ( my how fast the crowd turns ) .
 Visitors were fromaround the  globe:  UKManchester…..Chehalis , WA.,….And Kingston Ontario..
A record number of three banners were distributed, thusmaking up for a few of the “carry overs” that add up through out the year whenwe can’t give the banner away to anyone. Only 37 “carryovers” to go if anybodyis really keeping count.
 
Fred was back after having a few awols, perhaps because themarket was up --- for now—
Candace Etzler collected $118 for various scholarships andsports teams.. Welcome back snowbirds…
Introduced new member Sid Breman to the club, fascinatingguy; welcome!
 
Ernie Simon introduced our guest speaker Randy Dellgado, whospoke about our own Delray BeachPlayhouse. Bottom line if you haven’t been, go and support this gem.
Marty Phillips had the luck of the ticket draw but not thefinal card--- $1451 and 9 cards to go… happy holidays to someone! Stay tuned…..
 
Announcements: 
Dictionary Project gets kicked off in 2 WEEKS--  12/2-12/5 ; and 12/9 and 10 are the deliverydates. Candace needs 2-3 volunteers per day to help deliver the books to the 6schools participating. Volunteers usually meet at the school 8:15 am and arethrough by 9:30.
12/2-- SERVICE ABOVE SELF  MANDATORY MEETING---
            honoringour own Cliff Ripley. Please pre pay Sally $15 for lunch.
Meet at 11:30 in front of Old School Square for the dedication andthen lunch follows in the gymnasium.
If you do not attend you will be assessed a $15 charge onyour next dues statement.
