Face of India: What is the status of Eradication of Polio in 2009
Dr. Chan has made Polio Eradication a #1 top medical concern of the WHO (World Health Organization).
The vaccinations given out currently save 1 week to 6 year old kids in India.
Chandigrah is a two story house used for Rotary meetings and vocational training of young men.
45 people from 6 countries acted as volunteers for the National Vaccination Day in India.
Betsey traveled through Hospitals and visited a young girl who had been there for 2 ½ years. Mother's came each and every day to spend the time with their kids while in the hospital.
Young people volunteer in Polio camps. 2 drops are given to kids via mouth. Some Camps were even in Cow Pastures. Cows are considered sacred for their dung in this country as it is used for fuel and insulation of their homes.
The National Vaccination Program immunized 80,000 children in the 1st day.
Booths near schools will normally care for 5,000 kids a day.
Polio is a fecal disease. It can be transmitted through a handshake. Pinkies were dyed to signify who received the immunizations. Freezer packs are needed to hold vials of vaccinations fresh.
5 days old child was the youngest vaccinated during the program.
Vaccinations are only $.60 a drop.
The Challenge is now $2,000 a club for the next 3 years.
Type 2 Polio is eradicated. Type 1 and 3 are still being worked on.
Shots can be given to older people as opposed to drops.
Green Hat-$306-Joe Milenkovic picked the 2 of Spades.
Respectfully Submitted-Sarah Martin
