Mark Denkler introduced one of our scholarship recipients, Garret
Sutcliff. He is originally from West Palm Beach and just graduated from
Atlantic High School in the IB program. He has always liked cars and
working with his hands. He has decided to attend UF next year and major
in mechantronics which is a combination of mechanical, computer and
electronic engineering.

Our speaker today was Sharon Weber, author of a new book, Hot in the
Pot, A Survival Guide for the Real You in the Corporate World. As a
corporate trainer, she realized that too many people were being drained
of their authenticity in order to be part of a corporate culture. She
walked us through a power point booklet which points out why it is vital
to retain yourself in the business process.

The analogy of what happens today is like that of a boiled frog. As a
frog sits in tepid water and you turn up the heat gradually, he gets
used to it and sits in the water even to his own demise. This is much
like what many of us do without even realizing we are losing our true
selves. This is wrong for us to allow because people can sense when we
are not sincere. Most people prefer to do business with someone they
feel is real.

Being real (authentic) allows your clients to trust you, hear what you
are trying to say, and to hear yourself more clearly. In doing so, you
create the climate for others to be real also and you are able to glean
much more about a prospect or unheard need. You can also navigate your
business in the correct direction.

The keys to keeping it real are that you can monitor yourself
effectively. Listen to what you are saying. Is this how you really
feel or are you parroting someone else? You have to commit to being
real and change your ways if you realize you are not being yourself.
You also have to encourage others to be real along with you.

Our Tuesday, July 7 regular scheduled luncheon meeting will be held at
the Delray Beach Club at 12:00. While coat and tie are not required,
they do not allow tee shirts or jeans in the club. A shirt with a
collar and khaki trousers are fine.

Our green hat today was $711.00. Stormi drew the 10 of spades. We live
to play again next week.
