Bruce Williams serenaded us beautifully.
Steve Bates opened our meeting
Mike Campbell did the invocation
Jimmy led us in singing 2 songs, # 78 - When the Saints Go Marching In
and # 481 - I've Been Working on the Railroad
Steve Bates had both a birthday and an anniversary!
Congratulations...55 years young and a 5 year anniversary. Special
thanks for the donation today as well ($60 + another $5)
Harvey introduced visiting Rotarians and guests. Dave O'Connell guest
was Roman Carlucci; Ira Fine brought his son Matt Fine to join us.
Make-ups: Stormi (BBch); Dave Harden (BBch + DR Sunrise); Ira Fine (DR
Sunrise) On-line make ups done by Dave Buist and Jess Sowards
Fred Bonardi asks that our prayers and blessings be with his friend,
Jeff Randall's family. He and Jeff were playing golf at Delray Dunes.
Jeff didn't get out of the cart and Fred realized there was something
very wrong. Unfortunately, Jeff has suffered a major coronary and
passed away.
He was 56 years old. Fred asks that each of us realize how precious
time really is and live each day to the fullest!
The market is down today (DOW -20 points) but the NASDAQ and the S&P are
even. Gold is up 10 and Oil is up 1. Fred also wanted to let us know
that he saw that Zycam is being removed from shelves and no one should
use the product. Don't take it if you have it.
Sergeant at Arms report: Nick Loeb generously gave $100 for his summer
travels; Steve's $65 along with other generous contributions gave a
total collected today of $236.00. Thank you all!
AWOLS are Fred Bonardi, Steve Bates and Nick Loeb.
July 7- PLEASE REMEMBER Installation Luncheon at the Delray Beach Club
at 12:00. Don't forget the dress code...no jeans, tennis shoes, shorts,
etc. Slacks and collared shirts are fine - jackets and ties not
required.
Mae Volen Center needs drivers to deliver food on Sat. June 27th. Sign
up sheets are at the front.
Dues are due...please pick up your bill at the meeting and save the
postage for the club.
Larry Casey, our esteemed speaker, has been in Palm Beach County for 12
years. He has worked very hard to make sure the Red Cross is ranked #1
in Florida. Due to his hard work, he has succeeded! We are #1 in
Florida. There are 740 chapters of the American Red Cross in the US.
Our region goes from Vero to Boca and west to Lake Okeechobee. This
region is very socio-economically diverse. There are a lot of mobile
homes in the west area that will need attention during the upcoming
storm season.
Many people don't realize the American Red Cross (ARC) does a lot of
things for our community. They are involved with many programs. Just
to mention a few: CPR, Life Guard, Babysitters, Wilderness training.
They are also responsible for co-coordinating and assisting families of
soldiers that have been deployed. ARC also trains people to trace
people. For example, they were able to help reunite families by tracing
the whereabouts of people after the Holocaust. Other activities are
providing assistance to fire fighters during brush fires and also to the
victims of burned homes.
ARC is not a government organization and receives no monetary support
from the government.
This year has been difficult for them. The budget has been cut by 1.25
million dollars. Fortunately, their fund raising events have been
successful this year but they still need more dollars and they need more
volunteers. Please keep the American Red Cross in mind if you have some
time to volunteer in the community. There are many things you can do.
The Green Hat today was $747.00. Ira Fine had the winning ticket. His
son, Mat, drew the 2 of clubs! We live to play again next week. See
you then.
